2. Romantic

Rhaegar's and Lyanna's relationship began at the Tourney of Harrenhal, about one year before Robert's Rebellion. Rhaegar was one of the combatants in the tournament, and eventually he made it to the final round, where he faced off against his friend and personal bodyguard, Ser Barristan Selmy of the Kingsguard. Rhaegar won the round and was awarded with the crown of Winter roses. He was then supposed to give it to the most beautiful maiden in the crowd. What Rhaegar did with it shocked everyone. He silenced the entire audience by giving the crown to Lyanna Stark, rather than his own wife Elia. Since Lyanna was engaged to Robert, the act was most disrespectful to him. The tournament was beginning and lyanna had caught the eye of the mad kings son. Rhaegar targaryen....

Rhaegar's and Lyanna's actions had very severe consequences to their houses, as well as the entire realm. Brandon accused Rhaegar of kidnapping her, and traveled to King's Landing to demand Rhaegar's father, Aerys, to surrender Rhaegar for judgement and return Lyanna. Instead of handing over his son, Aerys had Brandon imprisoned for treason. Alerted by this, Lyanna's father Rickard went to King's Landing himself to demand his son's release, as well as Lyanna's.

"We urge you your grace,' varys told King Aerys 'to pardon Brandon Stark.'

' He threatened the Prince Rhaegar!' Aerys reminded his council.

'Rhaegar has stolen the boy's sister, and the boy he is the eldest son of our Warden of the North." Varys tried. But Aerys saw knives in every shadow. When Varys told him to treat the Starks with caution, he made him afraid. And what Aerys feared, he killed. House Stark and House Baratheon were the first to protest Rhaegar's actions. Brandon Stark demanded justice from Aerys in person. Aerys had him arrested for treason and then offered to ransom him to his father Rickard

Brandon and all his companions charged with treason. Aerys demanded all their fathers, including Lord Rickard Stark, come to King's Landing and promised they would receive a fair trial.

Aerys summoned Rickard to court and, when he arrived, publicly and very brutally executed both father and son. the king had them all burned alive, except for Brandon, who was strangled trying to save his father.

The brutal murder of Brandon and Rickard engendered much sympathy for the rebels and many Houses joined their cause

Jon Arryn was the Defender of the Vale, the Warden of the East and a respected nobleman. Both Rickard's second son Eddard Stark and Robert were fostered with him as children and became close friends. When Aerys demanded that Eddard and Robert be turned over to the King's Justice, Lord Jon refused and raised his banners in revolt.

Ned, was visiting his friend and mentor, Lord Jon Arryn, at the Eyrie along with Lord Robert Baratheon, the young lord of Storm's End and Ned's best friend.

More importantly, Robert was betrothed to marry Lyanna and he was head over heels in love with Lyanna. Ned couldn't help but think that the feelings were not reciprocated. Not after seeing Lyanna light up seeing Rhaegar.

The brutal fallout from Prince Rhaegar's alleged abduction of Lyanna Stark saw many noble houses in the realm rebel against his rule. In truth, however, Lyanna had not been kidnapped; she had eloped with Rhaegar, who had the High Septon issue an annulment to his marriage with Elia Martell.

"I think it is quite romantic." Taeylor remarked. "Going to war for the woman you love." Jaime looked down at her. "I mean, Robert... I over heard father talking with Uncle Tywin." Taeylor told Jaime. "The prince stole Lyanna stark and Robert is trying to start a war to get her back... romantic." Taeylor remarked.

"Wars are not romantic, Taeylor." Jaime corrected.

"I don't mean war itself I mean that act of fighting for the person you love." Taeylor clarified.

"I suppose." Jaime agreed.

"Are you going to fight?" Taeylor asked. "Join them?"

"I'm headed out, yes." Jaime agreed.

"Do be careful." Taeylor requested.

"I will and when I'm back we will be wed." Jaime told her and Taeylor smiled up at him sheepishly. "You look after my father for me." Jaime requested running a hand through her hair.

"Of course, Uncle Tywin is my favorite." Taeylor agreed and Jaime pressed a kiss to her cheek.
