It's the first night you and Gaara spend together as a married couple, about to rest up for tomorrow. Temari and Risa had arranged for you two to go spend a couple of weeks at the Land of the Crescent Moon for your honeymoon, and Baki had agreed to step in as temporary Kazekage for the duration of your trip. It's nearly two am, and both of you are exhausted from the day's work.

"Say, [Name]..." murmurs Gaara quietly, lying on his back. Your head lies on his chest, and your eyes were slowly beginning to close.

"Mhm?" His arms are around you, as if he didn't want anyone to get near you while you were under his care. You smiled at the thought, but said nothing else.

"That bet we made... who actually won?" Your brow furrows as you try to remember what stupid bet you'd forced Gaara to make nearly two months ago.

We'll do what this stupid book tells us to do and if you, or I, feel the slightest inclination of love towards each other, I'll admit I'm wrong. If we're still estranged by the end of it, then you'll have to admit you're wrong and we'll have to do things my way. But we both have to be completely honest. Okay?

"Well... we never did get around to finishing the book..." you laugh quietly. Gaara chuckles.

"Does that mean neither of us won?" You nod, as you start to drift off to sleep. Gaara strokes your hair.

"Hey, [Name]. Guess what?" You open your eyes and look up, thinking that he meant someone was at the door. You raise yourself with your arms, and look around, before looking back down on Gaara.

"What?" you ask. He sits up, and his lips meet yours for a sweet, passionate kiss. Neither of you withdraw until it's a mutual need to breathe. You giggle at the end of it, and Gaara leans forward, wrapping his arms around you.

"I love you." You close your eyes and embrace him back.

"I love you too... Lord Kazekage." He grins as you put emphasis on the "Lord Kazekage" bit, and you both fall back into bed, drifting off to sleep in each other's arms as newly wed lovers should.
