Why did Kokichi turn insane? There are multiple reasons for it, but the main one happened 3 years ago. That being said, there were other things that happened that slowly built up to his insanity, it's just that he finally snapped 3 years ago. DICE was gone, killed by an assassin. Kokichi never had the chance to kill that assassin himself, but he swore that one day he would make them pay. He didn't care if it cost him his sanity, DICE was his only family left and the cold hearted assassin just killed every single one of them. That's when Kokichi killed his first victim a few days later, his therapist. He couldn't take their constant words of "Try to think positive" or "Things will get better". The therapist never would of expected their 13 year old client to be holding a knife when entering the room. Things only escalated from their, as the young boy's sanity slipped away little by little with every kill. Soon enough, that lead a detective on his trail, it was too late to turn back now, especially with his master plan being portrayed. Shuichi assumed everyone that Kokichi had killed was innocent, but that wasn't true, he was insane but he wasn't a monster! Okay, he was a bit of a monster since some of his victims were innocent... The detective had decided to show to Kaede's house with spider lilies with a note that said "Sorry for your loss". Kaede welcomed her friend in, and they were soon in her room. "I know this isn't the right time, but I need to ask you some questions-" "No it's fine! If it helps you catch the person who killed my mother, then I'll answer whatever you need!" Kaede's voice was shaky, but full of determination. Shuichi simply asked about any relations to the family of three the purple haired killer killed, and if they knew her mother. Once he found d out they were regulars at the café, he used this information to try and pin point where the killer would head to next. The answer to that was a local orphanage, the target being one of the care takers. The detective was able to determine this because of the note that was left behind, "Your messing with the wrong knife, detective". The letters O, R, T, H, O and N were written in different ink, the word was purposely misspelled. Perhaps the killer wanted to throw Shuichi off with that spelling error, or to make this game more difficult, but it really didn't do anything. The only thing left to figure out was which care taker? The person to ask was a friend of Kaede's, Maki Harukawa. Maki was an orphan, so she was the detectives chance of catching the killer in the act. However, the killer wasn't going to be as foolish as to let him be caught when he barely started. What would the weapon be this time? Only time would tell, but what did an orphanage have to do with Kaede's mother? Neither Kaede or any of her family members have been adopted. Let me remind you of Maki, a friend of Kaede, that's the answer. Kokichi, after 3 years, managed to find that cold hearted assassin, and wanted to get his vengeance. He wanted the assassin to know exactly who was behind this. Then, and only then, would he be able to be at peace. But don't think he's just going to kill Maki, that would be too boring and expected. He wanted something more flashy, and something people never would of thought of. He was going to make his revenge extra sweet for himself, and extra cold for Maki. But he never would of expected the minor inconvenience of a school life to effect him in any way...
