Y/n's pov"Did you have a nightmare? How are you feeling right now?" Al Haitham asked as he wiped a tear from my eyes.
Even the soft gentle touch of his finger tips brought me some ease.
"I- I'm feeling alright right now... Thanks," I muttered. Now that my vision was cleared and I was now fully awake, I stared at my best friend that looked completely different- What happened to that scrawny boy that I used to hang out with?
The man that was sitting next to me was tall, muscular - I blushed. His choice of clothing was quite... 𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔.
He might have looked different, but he still has the same teal eyes that has a piercing stare to it. Sitting upright, I asked, "Al Haitham, what happened? I-I thought you were gone and I-"
Al Haitham looked at be with guilt, as if he wanted to tell me everything...
"I think it's best if you take it easy first. I promise I'll explain everything. Once you're ready, meet me outside at our favourite spot," Al Haitham said before he left me to change.
Scanning my surroundings, I was in a small tree house, filled with many maps and papers on the walls. It was our old tree house, the one we would visit when we were little.
Using magic to change outfits, I created a more casual outfit that is more comfortable, a simple cottage white dress with some flowers in my hair.
I took a deep breath and opened the door that led me outside. What I saw took me by surprise. Being a member of the royal family, I never really got the chance to escape from the castle into the forest these past few years.
I was greated by a gust of strong wind, as the gale blew a few leaves away from the lush green trees. Inhaling the fresh air, I smiled. How I've missed the Earth - instead of being cooped up behind the walls of the castle.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" Al Haitham said from behind. He was sitting outside the tree house, on a bench of the balcony.
"Al, what in the world is going on?" I asked, still extremely confused about the current situation.
Al sighed, closed his book shut and stared at me with a serious look. "Y/n, I know it's a lot to take in, but I'll be straightforward. When I left for the military, I faked my death in battle and managed to escape to this very forest,"
"The reason behind it was simple: it was because of the war. When I was at the camp, I discovered more about the war plans, and they were nothing like I had imagined,"

Al Haitham's pov:
"Alright, everyone back into their tents! Tomorrow we will pick the selected few soldiers to train for the war. Everyone is expected to turn in by 10 pm, or we'll throw you out. Dismissed!" The general yelled sternly.
Sighing, I had no other choice. Looks like it's time to initiate plan B.
The war seemed pointless - the general told us that we were going to fight off the soldiers from Fontaine, but it didn't add up.Fontaine and Sumeru has some political rivalry, but we still maintained a peaceful relationship throughout the years and the royal family made sure of it.
Refusing to sit still to fight some war, I was determined to get to the truth that night. It was past 12 am when I woke up and peered through the curtains.
"Guards everywhere... no matter, I just need to be silent. I'm lucky they don't have magic detectors," I muttered.
Sneaking past the guards, I made it into the general's tent at last. I was risking my head for this - but there was no turning back. I had to find the truth.
Looking throught some of the battle maps and strategies that were scattered on the table, it was the same thing: fight against Fontaine. No... this couldn't be right.
I checked the cabinets thoroughly, and just when I was about to give up, I noticed something strange about the last drawer. The under face of the drawer felt hollow, so after giving it a slight knock, it revealed a hidden compartment.
"Now... what do we have here?" I muttered under my breath as I took out a stack of papers from the compartment.
What was on the paper shocked me. It changed everything that this military stood for. It contained letters that described the war plans - and far more than that.

"Letters to whom?" I asked.
"A person known as the 𝑺𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒆𝒕 𝑻𝒉𝒐𝒓𝒏. An anonymous receiver, whom I suspect to be from within the castle. The paper used - rag paper, rose scented with a light shade of pink,"
My heart thumped. Someone from within the castle was a traitor. But who? Madam Rubia was not the only suspect - it could be anyone.
"Y/n," Al called me as he snapped me out of my thoughts. He could see the worry in my eyes, but the warmth of his teal eyes comforted me like old times.
"I know it's a lot to take in, but I promise that we're going to work through it together," He assured, his eyes gleaming with hope.
I felt confident, but I'm not so sure if I can fully trust Al yet. After all, he 𝑑𝑖𝑑 lie about his death.
"Are there any more secrets I should know?" I asked him, staring at him intensely."No. I understand that you might not fully trust me yet, after all this... But one thing's for sure - A war is coming, y/n. And we're going to have to join forces,"
At that moment, you just realised in the forest, a few people just awoke, coming out of their huts.
Children training in the fields - doing morning workouts, women and men training together, kids running around.
"I welcome you y/n, to the resistance," Al Haitham smiled, leaning against the balcony and motioning me to follow him.
