"Darling, are you finished with your studies yet?" Madam Rubia asked as she entered the royal library, swarmed with thousands of precious books.

Xavier, Y/n's younger brother was focusing on his magical studies when Madam Rubia entered.

"Greetings mother. I've finished reading all the books assigned and have studied them," Xavier said, smirking slyly at his mother as she sat down next to him.

"Excellent as always Xavier, I expected nothing less from you," Madam Rubia smiled, giving Xavier a pat on the back.

Xavier was a rather intriging character. He was in a way, the "serpent" of the family. Sly, two-faced, and a darker side to that bright smile that could fool anyone. He was smart, blessed with strategic talent.

He was talented, adored by her mother, but never seemed to be good enough in the king's eyes. Y/n and Xavier close, and they had respect for each other- despite having different birth mothers.

"Mother, I'll be going now, and I shall retire in my chambers as it's getting late," Xavier said as he made his leave.

As he climbed up the staircase towards his chambers, he can't help shake the feeling that y/n was in danger.

He sighed, peering out of the nearby stained glass window, into the horizon. "Dear sister... where ever you are, I just hope you're safe," He muttered, tryng to surpress his calm expression from changing.

His sister has taught him well- surviving in the royal family was no easy task accomplished alone.

Xavier was about to make a left turn towards his room, until he noticed a familiar scent leading to... His mother's chambers. The scent of rose water lingered vividly in his mind. No, he musn't... prying into other's business was not right.

However, he ignored his doubts and continued walking towards his mother's chambers. Mother rarely used rose water perfume- she only uses it to conceal important documents/matters.

"In fact, this is no ordinary rose water..." Xavier muttered, entering his mother's room and stealing quick glances around to ensure he was alone.

Smirking to himself, he held up a vile of rose water from her desk. "What a sly woman..." he muttered, examining the vile of rose water that glowed bright pink, slightly illuminating his face in the dimly lit room.

Xavier was an expert in spell casting, but was not as strong in spell making- subjects that involved potions, crafting magic, alchemy were his weakness.

However, it didn't stop him from mastering the fundimentals of such subjects, should it come in hand one day.

"This vile... hmmm..." he pondered as he found a pile of letters on the desk. Swiftly flipping through the pages, he said,"Mother... I have to know what you've been hiding. Your emotions are surpressed, the way you've been acting- your body language says otherwise."

"She's anxious... impatient and perhaps-" His thoughts were interrupted when he saw the words "Assasination hire document" on a piece of paper. "Scheming." Xavier said under his breath.

Examining the paper, Xavier knew at once that it was incripted by rose water.
"Here goes nothing..." he murmured, and casted a 'reveal' spell - a simple spell, grade 3 when he learnt it.

"𝑹𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒂𝒍 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝒉𝒊𝒅𝒅𝒆𝒏, 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝒎𝒆 𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒕𝒉," He chanted, and placed his hand on the paper.

The paper glowed slightly pink before the letters on the document faded into the original written ink.

As Xavier hastily scanned through the paper, the words 'assasinate the crown princess, Y/n' made his heart skip a beat.

"Mother... Why on earth resort to such drastic measures?" He thought, still amused by his mother's actions.

Yes, 𝒂𝒎𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒅. He acted fast. After a copy spell, he made a copy of the letter for evidence in case he needed it for the future. Once he was done, he made sure to put the letter back to its previous form using rose water, and darted towards the window.

Xavier pov:

Heh, never go out the same way you went in. A trick I learnt from my sister when she snuck out.

I opened the window, casted a few spells to climb back to my chambers unoticed. Finally reaching my room, I laid on my bed, covering my eyes.

"Sister... Where the hell are you right now?"
