This reason she had yet to explain fully to Link.

Sahasrala pressed her to hurry and tell him the truth of the situation but she said it was too soon. It wasn't until the confirmation of the army marching and the scouts returning in fewer and fewer numbers did Zelda begin to lose sleep.
King Rhoam took this threat lightly at first. But the men frequently returned shell shocked, traumatized, speaking of monsters and undead knights. Wizards and demon summoners. The realm of fantasy suddenly became reality. All the rumors of Ganondorf's dark magic users, were rumors no more. As quickly as it began, he sent out massive hoards of knights and began questioning the sages for guidance, the ones he scolded a month prior. He grew pale, the thought of a magic user approaching the castle gates with an army of stalknights made him lose his appetite. The exaggerated tales of moblins and bokoblins, monsters from the underworld were now commonplace among the barracks and soldiers, yet taboo in the Royal Hall, for the King would panic and throw a fit. The mood swings were getting worse.

Zelda took all this into consideration on the night she told Link to enter her room and join her on the balcony.

The cool wind and moonlight was helping keep the one sided conversation amiable, but Zelda could feel herself grow sadder the more she realized what had to happen.

"You understand now why I need your help? I didn't believe in the prophecy when I heard it first, but everything is coming true. Ganondorf's army is growing at an unprecedented rate, and no one is capable of stopping him. It may be a coincidence, Link, but..." Link listened carefully to the words the Princess said after a moment. "You feel it, don't you? Like a dark storm, billowing along the coast, spewing acid rain and lighting, razing the hills of Hyrule? The Triforce of Wisdom is guiding me. And I believe the Triforce of Courage will guide you, too, Link. It's telling me that you, Link...you need to find the Master Sword and stop Ganon from reaching the Triforce of Courage. If he can raise an army with just one piece of the Triforce, he'll be unstoppable if he has two. And he'll destroy the world if he has all three."
Zelda felt a tear form suddenly, her heart aching. It's like she could already see it happen in her mind, all the disastrous possibilities. She had to send him away, possibly towards his own demise.
Could she forgive herself if fails? If he never manages to even come close to Ganondorf and his army? If the prophecy was false all along?

Link carefully brushed the tear off her cheek. "I'll be back soon, Zelda."

Zelda upon hearing those words, was suddenly filled with a mix of admiration and peace. Why would she doubt his words? Prophecy or not, he was going to come back to her, because that's what he promised. And she was sure Link would never break a promise.

The next morning, a call was once again put out for all the footsoldiers to gather and be sent across the land of Hyrule to scout the Gerudo Army, and Link was among the posse. Despite Impa's many reservations, Zelda had made up her mind.

The small army marched methodically over the moat, in rows of 10. Zelda watched intently from her balcony. Among the bravest and strongest soldiers, stood out but one to her.

"Link..."
