'would?' - alice in chains

You woke up the next day at around 2pm with a splitting headache. The familiar warmth on your back from last night was now gone. You stretched in bed before slumping on the edge of the bed. You walked out of your room to go grab a clean towel in the storage area. As you were walking back to your room, you couldn't help but stop and listen in to the conversation happening in one of the rooms.

"Aren't you scared of hurting her feelings?"

"She'll understand that I didn't mean it. I don't like her like that. We were both drunk out of our minds, I reckon she doesn't even remember last night."

'Chris and Joey?'

"Listen just, be careful alright. You can't keep playing with her feelings like that, y'know?"

"Fuck, yeah I know."

Chris hums as the conversation ends, making you walk into your room and into the bathroom. You stripped out of your clothing and ran a hot and steamy shower as you let tears fall from your eyes. Does Joey not like you? Did you get too drunk last night and do something stupid? You couldn't remember. The thoughts circled your mind. You sniffed deeply and wiped away your tears as you washed your face. You spent a bit of time letting the hot water running over your head before getting back out of the shower and drying off. You weren't in a talkative mood at the moment.

"Morning (Y/N)." Mick greeted as you walked into the main area of the floor.

You waved at Mick on the couch whilst rubbing your left eye.

"Sleep well?" Sid asked.

You responded with a thumbs up.

"Silent, huh? Guess Craig has a twin." Sid nudges the pinhead beside him. Craig shrugs.

You nodded whilst lazily smiling. You barely even noticed that the guys had their masks off, including yourself. James was standing near the fridge drinking milk from the carton as Sid, Mick and Craig where on the couch watching TV in the lounge part of the room.

'God who's the best person to talk to about this..'

"Morning (Y/N), ya sleep well?" James spoke after screwing the lid back on the milk.

"Can I talk to you in private please.." You mumbled. The hint of seriousness in your quiet and broken voice caught him off guard.

"Yeah, sure."

You led him into the bathroom nearby and explained to him about what you heard this morning. You broke down in his arms as he listened to you patiently. Your small sniffles and his quiet and reassuring words was all that could be heard. He bought his hand to your chin, making you look up at him. He dried your tear-stained cheeks with his thumb.

"Where's your smile?" He asked, smiling slightly. You let out a small sniff.

"C'mon, where's your smile, I know it's there somewhere." He asked again, tilting his head to the right a little.

Cracked. You gave in and let your lips form a small, sad smile. That was enough.

"Let's go play guitar together, huh?" He suggested.

"Sounds nice.." You mumbled.

He gave you a quick squeeze in his arms before opening the door for you, letting you exit first. You thanked him and made your way towards James and Clown's room after picking up your electric guitar from your room. You plugged the guitar into an amp and sat down cross legged on the floor next to James. Time passed as you practiced a certain part of a song that you just couldn't get.
