It had been almost a month—one whole month—and you hadn't gotten one text from Jake saying if he was okay or if he was even alive.

You know you should consider that he is trying to protect you and that it might be hard for him to contact you, but you couldn't help your thoughts and how you felt.

All you wanted to know was if he was okay.

After Richy confessed to being "the man without a face", he poured gasoline everywhere and started a fire, which ultimately burned the old tunnels.

According to Officer Alan, it was absolute chaos.

Since the fire was in such an enclosed space, it caused the oxygen to run out quickly, resulting in anyone who had been inside choking to death before being burnt.

When the fire was extinguished, the police started to search inside the tunnels. They found what seemed to be a body.

However, it was too hard to identify, so the police sent the remains to a lab for analysis. However, they were pretty confident it was Richy.

Alan said that no one would have been able to escape the fires in the tunnel and survive, but you didn't want to believe this.

Jake was also in those tunnels but he was one of the most determined people you had ever met. When his mind was set on something, he would only stop once it was done. #

The fact that he found his sister Hannah is proof in itself.

He promised he wouldn't get captured because it would mean the two of you would be separated, but you still couldn't help wondering if that was the case, and that's why he hadn't contacted you.

The feeling of waiting and wondering if he was okay or alive made you feel useless, but you had to sweep those thoughts aside.

Right now, you need to be there for your friends.

The trauma that they had been through had been horrific and almost brutal to put into words. You felt the need to be there for them because it felt like the right thing to do.

Looking out of the taxi window, you stare at the tall trees stretching for miles, accompanied by the beautiful sunset.

You kept staring until you got lost in your mind with thoughts of finally meeting your friends in Duskwood.

'HEY! Lady," a rough voice yelled.

Your head snapped toward the sudden loud voice. The taxi driver was an older man with grey hair and an annoyed expression.

"I said we're here," he said, looking towards me through the rearview mirror.

You politely apologised, settled the payment, and exited the car.

Walking to the back of the vehicle, you opened the booth and dragged out your dark blue suitcase before closing the booth again.

The taxi then drove off, and you watched it until it disappeared into the distance.

You sighed and slowly turned your head to the building before you. It was a small hotel where Lily worked.

Taking a deep breath, you picked up your luggage and walked inside. Instantly, you were greeted with a cosy warmth that seemed to surround the hotel.

The inside was beautiful and gave a cottage-like feeling.

Scanning for the registry, you spot Lily sitting down, her eyes glued to her phone.

She has a worried expression plastered on her face, making you wonder who she might be texting. You decide to walk up to the registry with your suitcase and press the bell.

"Oh, I'm so sorry I got..." Lilly said and then suddenly stopped.

"It's you!"

She looks at you, shocked and lost for words.

"Hi, Lily, long time no see," you smile.
