BANG!!!
The loud sound of a vase colliding with the ground caused you to shoot out of bed with a shocked and almost comical expression that made Jake smile. He stood there looking at you with a slight smirk, and when you finally registered what had just happened, your heart started to ease.
"Jake, what are you doing?" you say while rubbing the sleep away from your eyes. Jake sat beside the bed and looked at you with his deep blue eyes.
"I'm Sorry, Y/n. I didn't mean to wake you," he said, apologizing.
"It's fine, but you didn't answer my question," you say in a slightly cold tone, but Jake doesn't seem to notice and brings his laptop to you.
"I'm looking over the coordinates, hoping to make the transmission strong enough to narrow it down. My computer is not high-tech enough.
I know it wouldn't have worked anyway, but sometimes life has a way of surprising you when you try away."
He turns to you after speaking, and there is a long pause, with both of you looking into each other's eyes. Jake opens his mouth as if he is about to say something when there is a knock at the door.
"Hey, wake up guys, we don't have time to be sleeping in!." Jonathan shouts before you hear his footsteps as he walks away, probably to get some breakfast.
You both quickly get up from the bed and get ready to leave the room when you arrive downstairs. You are shocked to see all your friends seated in the dining area. Before you can say anything, Jessy runs up to you and hugs you.
"OMG, Y/N!! We were all so worried when you went missing.
Are you okay?
Lily told us everything.
Those people didn't hurt you, did they?" She said frantically.
"Jesy, I'm fine, I promise," you smile. However, Jesy is not entirely convinced and glares at Jonathan as Jesy, Jake, and you sit down with the rest of the group.
"So what Lily said about you getting kidnapped because of some stupid papers is true?" Dan said in disbelief
With everything that had gone on with trying to find Hannah, he thought nothing else would surprise him.
"They are not stupid papers." Jonathan chimed in. "Those documents can make or break this country."
"So the only option you had was to kidnap a woman. That's sick," Dan responds, irritation written all over his face.
"It was for the country's good; I wouldn't expect someone like you to understand" Jonathan retaliated, causing Dan to stand up and grab him by his shirt."
"Hey!!" you shout. "That's enough; as irritating as he is, we need him to clear Jake's reputation.
Dan drops Jonathan to the floor, his face filled with both irritation and sadness.
"Of course, this is all for the damn hacker. I don't even know why I bothered coming here. I'm leaving. Good luck solving your problems." He storms out of the room.
Silence lingers for a while, the only sound being Jonathan groaning as he gets up from the floor and slumps back into his chair.
You clear your throat, drawing everyone's attention.
"I think one of you should check on Dan. I have a feeling he might go drinking," you sigh. You aren't sure why Dan's acting like this, but now isn't the time to dig into the reasons.
"I'll go," Thomas says. "I'll make sure he's okay." With that, he heads out after Dan.
"We must find this file by the end of this month, or Jake and I will end up in jail. We've been given some resources, but they're not much help. Like Lily said last night, people who live in Duskwood usually keep to themselves, so questioning them as strangers would only set us back.
