I love my idiots. Never to be doubted. But spending 3 and a half hours on a plane together? Even I am going to lose brain cells. When we landed, I could've easily wept tears of gold. And when I found my Strawberry waiting outside her red Honda Civic, I may have brushed an imaginary tear from under my eye. "Hey, thanks for picking us up." She smiled at me and uncrossed her arms, opening up the passenger seat. "Of course. It's the least I could do for your chauffeuring when we first met, I'm simply returning a favor." After that, she leaned in to whisper something. "My best friend is in the back seat, you will be interrogated. Good luck." Splendid.
I sat down comfortably while Gray and Cris sat next to Harley, and yes, I remembered her. Before I could even begin, a huge commotion caused Stella to brake hard out of fear. "Wow, wait! Cristina?!? What the hell are you doing here?!" I turned to see Harley and Cris wide eyed but smiling ear to ear. "Hola amor, I'm here because my best friend almost died so I had to be the braver of the two and help her back to her old self. How about you?" Stella and I shared a look of pure, unadulterated confusion at our best friends knowing each other. "Stella is my best friend, and so it's my duty to assure that Fiona dies if she hurts her." Jeez, everyone wants a swing at me huh? "I would prefer you don't do that amor, because then it'd be my responsibility as Fiona's best friend to avenge her."
Gray just looked back and forth, sitting in the middle of this unexpected reunion. "You guys want to maybe... share what's going on here?" Stella turned back around and continued driving. I kept my eyes on them, confused to all hell on what the fuck was happening. Harley reached forward and whispered something to Stella, which was dumb because Cris, Gray, and I all have keen hearing. "You remember that girl I was talking to you about?" At that, Stella's eyes went wide and damn near drove off the highway. "You're lying!! No fucking way!-" "Stella please, I'd like to get to Devil's Corner in one piece." I interrupted her squeal and dug my fingers into the seat below me and the arm rest. "Right right, sorry. But this is perfect! Now I don't have to go all bad cop on your mystery woman because I've already met her and, spoiler alert, I approve."
I turned back to Cris, murder evident on my face. "You had a girlfriend and didn't think to tell me?!" Cris raised her hands in surrender, clearly nervous I'd crash this car into oblivion. "First of all, not my girlfriend. And second of all, I've known Harley for like a year now. She would stop by Devil's Corner every Friday, why did you think I was consistently unavailable on Fridays?" I raised my scarred eyebrow at her question, giving her a 'really bitch?' look. "Do you really want me to answer that?" She just chuckled, running a hand through her hair. Then, I turned my attention to Harley and gave her the suspicious glare. "How can I trust you with my best friend? She's a 'sleep now, talk later' type, how do I know you're not going to just have your fun and then ditch her?"
Cris blushed from pure embarrassment and sagged in her seat, while Harley stiffened at my suspicion and shot me her own nasty glare. "Me? What about you? How do I know you're not going to get hungry in the middle of the night and drink my best friend dry?" I just scoffed, giving her a dumbfounded look. "Because she's my mate. If she dies, there's a good chance I'll go with her. And moreover, I actually like her. Why would I take an iron stake to the chest for someone I don't like?" I could see in my peripheral Stella fighting back a smile. "Ok, that's pretty hardcore. But the same applies for me! Aside from the mate thing, I don't have that kind of bond. But I like Cris, she's known for a pretty long time. Why the hell would I wait 6 months for her if I wasn't committed to her?"
Wow, mad respect. I pursed my lips at her, the car going deadly silent until a smile broke out between the both of us. "I think my best friend will be just fine with you Harley." She nodded in agreement and a collective sigh of relief passed through the entire car. "Goddess, I was convinced some blood was going to spill." Stella chuckled nervously, safely getting off the highway and into normal traffic. "I just want to go home to my mate bro, you chicks are seriously cutthroat and I miss my sweet and extremely kind girlfriend." We all just laughed at Grayson, because it's seriously funny that he's just sat through all the crazy shit we girls are going through.
Conversation was nice, meanwhile me and Stella just quietly held hands until we reached Devil's Corner. Home sweet home. We walked in as the sun started setting. The club was silent, nobody inside. "I had no one I could trust to run the place while I was gone, so I claimed we had plumbing issues and shut down for a while. I guess we can get her back up and running soon." Cris said, running her hand over the black tiled walls. This place has seriously seen some shit. Emma and Scarlet- yes I got caught up on their fairytale of a romance-, Harley and Cris, and now- me and Stella. Ironic after I said to myself that I'd never fall in the percentile to find love at a club. It's such a nice feeling to be here. I'm safe, for once. No witches want my head, I'm not secretly hunting anymore, and I've made peace with my situation.
"You look happy." Stella broke my silence, making me turn to look at her and smile wider. "I am. My life finally looks like it's going to start going uphill from here. Now all that's left is for me to take you on a proper date." She blushed a pretty red, but her dazzling smile was enough for me. "That sounds fantastic."
