When Valentine's day came just a couple days after the incident, I woke up with a huge lead ball in my stomach. I had invited loads of people that I felt were important to me. Grayson and Ally, Cristina and Harley, Scarlet and Emma... and of course, my two special guests. Stella and her father. I was especially nervous for them. I'd gotten all dressed up, and I closed down the club for tonight just to host this private party. I was extremely nervous, like about-to-throw-up-everywhere nervous.
"Fi, you'll be fine. You look great in your tux, I bet Stella will drool." Cris smirked, making me roll my eyes but smile at the comment. Cris in particular had gone crazy with the decorations and getting herself dressed up. A skin-tight, blood red dress clung to her curves, a slit on one of the sides and a good portion of the middle front was just lace. "Thanks Cris, and you look great too. I bet Harley is going to break a couple Coven rules just for you." I winked, making my friend blush in return. Scarlet and Emma were already here. The only person who knew what was going on was Scarlet, but only because she's known me the longest.
As time for the big event drew closer, the more the knot in my stomach made me seriously want to hurl. Both Carly and Cris tried to calm me down, but I got the feeling that anxiety over a mate wasn't something my friends could help with. Grayson and Ally arrived hand in hand, and to their surprise, I gave them a hug. Ally looked so shocked yet so moved, she looked like she could actually cry. I smiled despite the angry mumbling coming from Cris about me never hugging her, to which I snickered and did something no one would ever expect from me. I leaned up and pressed a soft kiss to her cheek, making her look at me with wide eyes.
"You've been with me since the beginning of this craziness. Thank you Cristina." She quickly fanned her eyes to not ruin her makeup before pulling me into a tight hug. "I love you, stick-in-the-mud." As for Carly? I think Emma would've murdered me on the spot so I gave her a smile that spoke a million words, one she returned. Then, the front doors opened. In came High Priestess Harley, Mr. King, and... Stella. She looked gorgeous, with her forest-y green dress that flowed behind her like a river- making her bright orange hair pop and the curliness of it contrast with her dress. Our eyes immediately gravitated to each other, a zing of electricity passing between us.
I cleared my throat and spoke up, making sure to smile a bit. "Thank you all for coming. Valentine's day seems like a funny day for all of us to get together as friends, but it's more than that." I walked forward a little to stand in the middle of my friends. "This day commemorates more than just the day of love. It signifies my day of rebirth, of finally drawing the line between the past and the present. And what better day to be reborn... than my birthday?" A collective gasp filled the room except for Mr. King, who looked better than last time but still white as a ghost, and Scarlet who already knew it was my birthday. Gray spoke up first. "You were born on Valentine's day? Ironic." A snicker passed through my friends.
I walked over to the witches, but kept my eyes on Mr. King. Then- I knelt down and sat on my haunches, grabbing my knees and then bowing my head. I could hear everyone's hearts speed up, I don't think they expected me to kneel before the man who killed my sister. "I won't apologize to you for what I did. You did far worse to me. I apologized to Stella because she was the one I cared to be forgiven by. But I understand the importance of your relationship with her. I ask that you tolerate me, even if you have to grit your teeth and swallow your tongue. Your daughter is my mate, and above all else, she is the woman that I love. I ask that you allow me to pursue her."
Stella's heart thumped loudly in my head, as did mine from my confession. I picked myself up and looked him in the eye to see a blank stare. "I wronged you Miako. The least I can do is allow you to continue making my daughter happy." My shoulders sagged in relief, and to show a truce, we firmly shook hands- although we quickly pulled apart from the discomfort of touching each other. That's when Cris started blasting music and cheering like it was the end of the world, Ally and Grayson joining her. I smiled and turned to Stella, waiting for words to come out of my mouth. "Howdy." I regret every life decision. "Hey. How old are you turning?" I thought for a moment, doing some mental math. "I think I'm now 105 years old. Why? Don't tell me you're going to pull the 'our age gap suddenly matters even though we're gonna live for a super long time' stuff."
She just giggled, shaking her head and I realized she was missing her glasses. "I don't care about the age gap. Honestly, if we do the math of our ages in proportions... it would be the same as me being 27 and you being 24. It's negligible. Also, did you mean that?" I looked in confusion before realizing she was asking about my confession. "I do mean it, from the bottom of my cold heart. No pressure though. You don't have to say it back now or a couple days from now, it's whenever you want." She shot me a smile before stepping closer and grabbing my cheeks with her warm hands, kissing me lightly on the lips.
"Good. Because I plan on torturing you with my silence for a very long time." I chuckled, linking my fingers around her waist. "Of course you do. You're Stella King. You've forced me to be quite the patient woman. But as long as you're around to torture me, I'll be happy." She rolled her eyes, knowing exactly what I was referring to. "I thought you were supposed to be the shy virgin. Not the 'take it now for the love of the Moon Goddess' virgin." I laughed quite loudly at that one, pressing my forehead to hers. "Well Strawberry, with a sweet tooth like mine, I can't help but indulge." She hummed in acknowledgement before closing her eyes, letting us stand in the comfort of each other's embrace. "So, am I forgiven at least?" I broke the silence, opening my eyes to see her do the same. "You were forgiven the moment you showed such vulnerability in front of all of us. Kneeling in front of my father like that. You're adorable."
I sighed, content with the way my life was starting to pan out. "Hey Strawberry?" She hummed in question, placing her elbows on my shoulders and toying with the ends of my short hair. "Would you be my Valentine? Now and forever?" The most goofy, adorable smile crossed her lips as she looked at me with those radiant green eyes. "You really are too cute. I'd love to be your Valentine, Fiona. Now and forever."
Life can be so confusing, throwing curveballs at you. But if there's one curveball I learned in the course of my life: Revenge will never get you what you truly want. It won't avenge anyone and it won't make you feel better. All revenge does is leave a bitter taste in your mouth, a taste that can only be quenched by a certain sweetness.
