I blink my eyes as I finally come to my senses, I furrow my eyebrows as I look around the large hut I lay inside, the medical hut. There is a row of grey beds on either side of me and the room seems sick, with the amount of deaths that have taken place in this room I can't imagine it would have a cheery feel to it.
I slowly begin sit up being careful not to hurt my back too much although I still scrunch my face in pain. "Drake stitched you up," I jump as I look over to the source of the noise and see Lincoln sitting on a stool at the side of my bed. "He told me you can't move to much, the stitches will be removed in a week." He tells me before standing and heading towards the door but my voice stops him, "Thanks..." I trail off looking at the ground as I lean back on my elbows in the bed I lay in. "For what?" Lincoln asks turning to face me with a look of pure confusion on his face, "I don't know." I shrug my shoulders but then look up meeting his gaze and continue, "I guess for not being dead." I tell him with another shrug and he nods before making his way fully out of the hut. I know he is still confused after seeing me again after all this time and he doesn't know if he should forgive me. I would feel the same too. I slowly stand to my feet and walk out the hut like nothing happened, with each step I feel pain in my back but I will not show anyone, especially Anya, that I am weak. Not after what happened at the whipping, that was embarrassing enough. I stand in the centre of my camp and look around me, spinning in a circle, and for once in my life I feel like an outcast when I notice the looks I am receiving.
"Lexa!" I look over when I hear my name being said but I automatically regret it when I see Zona walking towards me, "what do you-" I am cut off by Zona's fist swiftly hitting me in the face, right below my eye. "Anya wants to see you." She speaks afterwards as though nothing happened and I just glare at her knowing if I lash out I will rip my stitches out. Zona walks past me barging into my shoulder and whispering, "watch your back" in my ear as she goes. That means she wants my position as second in command and the she has been talking to Anya about it no doubt.
I close my eyes and take a deep breath, Zona thinks that she can control me because I can't fight back as my wounds are to painful, she is probably right but that doesn't mean I won't try. I calm myself and walk to Anya's hut with a look of determination on my face as I force myself to ignore the fierce burn of pain in my back. I step into Anya's hut and look over to see her sitting in her throne with a satisfied look on her face. I force myself not to scoff as I walk over to her as she still doesn't look at me, she keeps her eyes focused on the wall to my right.
"You asked for me?" I ask her as I stand strong, well as strong as I can, when her eyes finally land on me I take a slight step back. Her eyes are angry as they boar into me, I find myself wishing she would look back at the wall now. "Yes." She stands from her seat and steps down the few stairs in front of me, "You have proven yourself to be weak these last days..." Anya trails off as she walks over to the rack of weapons on the left hand side of the room, I frown at her back staying silent as I wait for her to continue. "You of all people know how I feel about weak people." I furrow my eyebrows when I remember Anya ordering for many of our own to be killed for not being to her standards. For not being strong enough for her.
"You had me whipped, what did you expect?" I ask taking a step towards her suddenly finding my voice, "for me to bounce back, smiling, like nothing happened. Like my best friend, the person who used to mean the world to me hadn't just ordered for me to be whipped." I growl, narrowing my eyes as I continue glaring at Anya's back. In the blink of an eye Anya has turned and flung a dagger at me, my reflexes don't fail me as I swiftly dodge the knife turning to see it embedded in the wall behind me. "I will do much worse if you don't keep your mouth shut!" Anya suddenly shouts forcing my head to whip in her direction as I stare wide eyed at her. Did she just threaten me?
