Spear

I watch as the girl who was first on the ground quickly undresses and I climb up a tree to get a better view fearing that she is about to jump into the river that the snake inhabits. When I reach the top of the tree my fears are confirmed. I block out the voices of the Sky People as I think, do I let her live? It would be one less person to deal with if I just let the beast take her.

The girl begins screaming and flailing her arms around as she is dragged around the water by the beast and I gently place the spear I was holding beside me on the tree ensuring it will not fall and skillfully ready my bow, I aim the arrow frantically trying to find a way to injure the animal. My eyes dart over to the other dude of the river when there is a splash and I notice that the Sky People have pushed a boulder into the water but the beast has still not released the girl. I regain my focus and aim, swiftly letting the arrow fly hitting it directly in the eye. The snake cries out in pain which allows the girl to remove herself from the beasts grasp as she struggles in the water searching for a way out the beast takes off to tend to it's wound. A boy jumps in to get the brunette, stupidly trying to be a hero, as he paddles across - do these people know how to swim?! Of course not Lexa they lived in space - the blonde girl shouts from the shore, "Jasper hurry up! It might come back!" She desperately looks over to where the beast swam off to but I doubt it will come back.

The hero, who's name I now know as Jasper, drags the girl out of the water with the help of the others, "Octavia, are you okay?" The blonde quickly reacts and sits down next to the wound on her leg. "What-what made it stop?" Octavia speaks out of breath and I move closer to the trunk of the tree so it looks like I'm not there. The blonde looks over at the tree I am sat in only looking towards the place the arrow came from making the others look towards me but I go unnoticed, "I have no clue." The blonde girl mutters shaking her head slightly.

I can't help but smile in relief when we reach the river clearing, knowing that they are about to cross onto my clans territory. I don't listen to the conversations below as I work on finding a good position discreetly.

Just on time I get comfy in my position in the tree and pick up my spear. I watch as Jasper swings across a vine landing on two feet on our land. He begins yelling making the others laugh and cheer but I blank them out as I concentrate on lining up my shot, aiming for the right side of his body so I won't kill him.

When Jasper holds his hands above his head showing the others the Mount Weather sign I take my chance, doing my last second tweaks and put all my weight forward letting the spear fly hitting Jasper directly in the right side of his chest sending him flying back against the stone behind him with a blank expression on his face. My reflexes take over and I grab onto the tree to stop myself from falling, and rest in against the trunk of the tree as I listen to the screams and cries of the others. I watch the boy with the long hair start to drag the blonde girl away a she stares in shock, before they all break out into a sprint running away from their friend and the danger aka me.

When they are out of sight I climb down from the tree jumping from halfway and rushing across to Jaspers body. When I reach him he groans in pain and attempts to move back from me but he is to weak. I grasp onto the spear with a firm grip and count to three out loud for Jaspers benefit before tugging the weapon out of his chest causing him to scream in pain no doubt catching his friends attention. I quickly clip the spear onto my back with Jaspers blood still dripping from it and grab both his wrists.

I begin pulling him up the hill behind me and resting him on the tree when we reach the top. I get into my crouched position and slowly move down the hill back towards the river and see his friends hiding behind a bush on the other side staring at the position he used to lie in looking shocked. I watch their mouths move but can't make out what they are saying.

I watch as they turn to start running once again and I make my way back to Jasper. "Wh-what do you want with m-me? Why-y are you d-doing this?" Jasper stutters and mumbles his words but I manage make them out, "who are you?" He whispers as his body begins shaking from the pain, if I don't act fast he will pass out. I grab my knife from my boot and cut open his shirt.

"Lexa," I tell him my name as I take out my medicine and get to work.

Once Jasper is tied onto a tree for bait, I decide to set up camp in a tree knowing that the Sky People won't be back for Jasper until dawn. I sigh as I quickly climb the tallest tree to its highest point. I strap my belt along the tree trunk with my knives and weapons all held in it so they can't get in the way while I sleep. I lie back on a trunk with my legs stretch out along the branch - this position, surprising comfortable - I take off my coat and stretch it across my body covering as much as I can manage. I take a deep breath of the fresh air and slowly release it.

I look back down at Jasper as he continues to groan, I do feel sorry for him. I am not some heartless bitch who doesn't care about the number of people she has killed or the people she has to injure. I look up at the sky thinking about the scars and burns on my body - scars for stepping out of line and needing a punishment, burns for every person I have killed. I currently have 52 burn marks on my body - they make me look hideous but I move past them, it's all part of being a warrior. 52 lives taken by my hand. Anya has taken a lot more and she is proud but I hold anything but pride when I see the marks on my body. I am ashamed of them. Along side them are my tribal tattoos the one that shows I am part of the wood clan, the one that shows I am second in command and a handful of other symbols.

I stare at the biggest star in the sky, a long time ago I decided that was where the sky people stayed, that was where they came from. I still believe it. They have always interested me and I want to learn more about them but if I try I will be seen as a traitor to my clan and they will all take a turn stabbing me with my own dagger, there is a lot of people in my clan. I snuggle further into the tree readying myself for a sleepless night and close my eyes.
