The Explosion

I carefully listen to the sound of the scratching of metal on metal as I sharpen my knife. It soothes me slightly, one of those noises that you love but no one else does.

I stop and through my knife against the wall to test it's sharpness and it lands with a thud on the target painted on the wall, bullseye.

My ears prick up when I hear a loud bang followed by a crackling sound. I frown in confusion and slowly stand to my feet. "Lexa!" I hear the Commander, Anya, shout my name and I quickly grab my knife out the wall and run out with my knife in hand.

I jog up to Anya and follow her eyes to the sky. I frown again as I see a firey ball falling from the sky, "what is it?" I hear someone gasp in admiration as we continue to watch it fall. I must admit it does look beautiful but it can't be a good thing.

"Is it something from the Sky People?" I mutter so that only Anya can hear me and I see her nod from the corner of my eye as I continue watching the sky, "I think it is." She says bluntly before the fire lands with a crash but nothing happens after that.

"Go and check it out, who knows what it is so take weapons it could be dangerous," Anya grabs my forearm as she speaks staring straight into my eyes, "be safe." She finishes before turning abruptly and leaving heading to her hut.

I sigh and run a hand over my hair feeling the braids before heading away from the crowd of people muttering and into my hut also. I pull on my fur coat and make sure my boots are done up tightly before grabbing my arrows and slinging them on my back, tucking knives into my pockets, boots and trousers incase I get caught and need it to escape. As I walk out the door I pick up my bow and jog out the back of camp to my black horse, Jet, who stands patiently for me to get on his back. I strap my bow onto the saddle and climb on, "Ya!" I shout and he gallops off speeding through the trees.

Within minutes I am a few feet away from the machinery hiding myself out of sight easily. "Stay Jet." I climb up the closest tree and jump between trees until I am close enough to the machine that is no longer on fire but a few plants around it are.

I jump slightly when the door opens and I load my bow holding it downwards and not aiming.

I watch intently as a girl walks down the metal ramp slowly, hesitating at the bottom as though the ground would swallow her whole when she stood on it. She takes a deep breath of the fresh oxygen before jumping off the ramp and throwing her hands in the air when nothing happened, "We're back bitches!" When she shouts this I am quick to aim my bow, but before I can shoot people begin piling out the ship screaming and laughing wildly.

I frown and lower my weapon. I don't think I have laughed in years. Everyone in my clan, or any clan for that matter is serious and the only thing they know how to do is fight and prepare for war.

I smile as I breath out a gasp, everyone looks ecstatic to be standing on the ground, they are definitely Sky People no doubt about it.

I look over when I hear someone shout over the commotion, "What? You think your in charge here? You and your little princess?" I see the girl who was first on the ground as she speaks fiercely and I jump two more trees to get closer to them so I can hear everything that's being said.

"Do you think we care who's in charge? We need to get to Mount Weather." My eyes widen when they mention Mount Weather, that's where the mountain men are. Are they mad? Why would they want to go there! "Not because the Chancellor said so, but because the longer we wait, the hungrier we'll get and the harder this will be. How long do you think we'll last without those supplies? We're looking at a 20 mile trek. Ok? So if we want to get there before dark, we need to leave. Now." A blonde girl says with a very strong voice sounding almost like Anya.

"I have an idea, you two go and find it for us. Let the privileged to the hard work for a change." An attractive brunette standing beside the girl who was first on the ground, speaks loudly and everyone cheers.

"Your not listening, we all need to go." a coloured boy speaks.

"Look at this everyone, Chancellor of Earth!" I brown haired boy with his hair slicked back shouted as he walked into the conversation. "You think that's funny?" The coloured boy said trying to sound intimidating and failing, he walks over to slicked back continuing to try and look intimidating but slicked trips him and blondie screams for them to stop.

As the chaos continues I climb down my tree and discreetly make my way back to Jet, not that they would notice I was here with everything happening.

I unhook my weapons from Jet and leave him for the stable hand to un-tack for me. I strut into camp, everyone looks my way knowing that I was sent to seek out the source of the explosion but I keep my eyes focused on my destination, Anya's hut.

When I pull back the cloth to her hut I see two men already inside but she quickly sends them away when she sees me, the two men nod their heads towards me as they leave and I return the favour.

"So?" Anya speaks first as I stand in front of her as she sits in her throne. "Sky people, sent down from space at least one hundred of them." I say bluntly getting straight to the point, "They aren't a threat, to busy fighting with themselves." I continue and Anya nods her head clearly thinking.

"We will leave them now, but keep an eye on them. Do you agree?" Anya asks me and I have to agree as I am only second in command. "Of course." I say nodding my head ready to leave when I remember one last thing.

"Also, Anya. They said they were heading for Mount Weather." I speak again and she looks up shocked by what I had to say, "I suppose they will become the Mountain Men's problem." She shrugs her shoulders standing from her throne and walking away signalling that the conversation is over, but I have other ideas.

"They have to cross through our land to get there." I remind her and she turns to face me slowly, "then go after them." she shrugs and I nod turning to leave but she stops me. "Lexa, injure one of them. Give them a good scare." She says with a smile and I nod, "gladly." I walk out the hut fast before she gets a chance to speak again. Believe it or not I am one of Anya's closest friends. I know some way to treat a friend. I start heading out the camp, deciding to leave Jet this time when I hear Anya call my name. "Commander." I great her as she walks up to me. "The person you injure, heal them then hang them up for bait. See who gets to them first, the panthers or their friends." She stats with a sinical smile and I agree with the same smile on my face, "wait around afterwards I want to find out the answer." Anya speaks to Lexa's back, "anything you wish, Anya." Lexa says as she continues to walk not looking back.
