"I'm starting to think we're destined for each other."

I narrowed my eyes as I clutched the phone closer to my ear, looking around the store for what I could get. "What exactly are you going on about, Terenzio?" I asked, hearing the man laugh on the other line.

I wasn't going to say anything, but it felt so weird and uncommon to be on the phone with someone as much as I was with Tre. Hell, Tre and I barely called since we were always together. Normally, I would've limited the calls to at most once a week because I hated phone calls, but with Terenzio, the conversation seemed to flow effortlessly.

He was so talkative yet such a great listener, and I never felt pressured to say more than I needed to. However, I did anyway.

"I spy with my little eye something beautiful and purple." Terenzio mused and I furrowed my brows. "How am I supposed to see what you're seeing? But let me take a guess, an eggplant?" I scoffed and he let out a breathless chuckle. "No, tesoro, why don't you look up for a second?" He asked and so I did.

"...ah."

As soon as I looked up ahead of me, he was standing there with a smooth smirk on his face as he winked at me. Wearing a black suit underneath a navy peacoat, he was as dashing as he could be and I internally scowled at my choice of attire.

"Don't be shy; come here." He hung the phone up, beckoning for me to walk to him with his finger and I sighed, feeling a slight burn in my cheeks.

"Hey..." I trailed off as I came to stand in front of him, feeling awkward with that big smile of his. "Ah, I was bored at work so I decided to come out for a stroll, get a bite to eat, and go see some things, but this coincidental meeting is exactly what I needed." Terenzio chuckled, his gray eyes shining with happiness.

"I'm only here because Tre demanded that I get a few new clothes for myself," I sighed, looking around the department store I never really visited. "But, eh, I'm having a bit of trouble so I might call it a day and go home." I rolled my eyes and Terenzio shook his head.

"Nonsense. I might be able to help." He stepped into my space, putting a hand on the small of my back. "Shall we?" He motioned toward the men's section of the shop and I shrugged, giving a small smile. "As long as they're not too expensive. I'm only a college student," I chuckled and he winked at me as if he knew something I didn't.

"Not to worry, your pretty little head," He pulled me slightly closer to him, a smirk donning his lips as he looked my figure up and down. "It seems that you can pull off many colors," Terenzio pulled out a light blue fitted shirt, glancing between myself and the shirt. He then put his hand up in the air and waved. Thirty seconds later, a female attendant was standing next to him with a luxurious shopping bag. "Here you are, Mr. Mazzi! Is there anything else we can hold onto for you?" She asked sweetly, and I took a second to realize that I had been slapped in the face with the aroma of wealth.

I felt a soft twinge of something unfamiliar rise in the core of my stomach. It wasn't disgust or anger.

Envy.

It wasn't something I felt often. It only ever occurred if I felt sincerely inferior in someone's presence.

I didn't know what I was envious of. Terenzio looked as if he worked for everything he had, and without knowing him fully, I admired that of him. I wished that I had that quality within myself, but it seemed as if the demons from the past would continue to haunt me.

I watched as he sifted through several fancy shirts, adding more and more to the bag that the assistant was holding. I gritted my teeth slightly, wishing that I was not standing here at this moment in time. He insisted on bringing me here, but I could not help but feel bitter.
