The Last Day

The next day seemed to go by fast, as most last days do.

It was mainly your average last day of school. Where everyone is rushing to say goodbye to all their friends they won't see over the summer. All of the lockers look like they threw up on the floor because we all emptied them quickly into our back packs. And the teachers just sit at their desks while all the students talk about their plans and sign yearbooks.

I stood in the now empty hall waiting for Jackson to empty out his locker. "Come on!"

He turned around and was about to slam his locker closed but hesitated and left it open for the faculty to change the combination.

"I'm ready, let's go," he said as he pulled his backpack on over his shoulder. We walk down the hall kicking the piles of paper as they came along. But as we passed the 12th grade hall I saw something that caught my eye.

"What are you doing?" Jackson asked, giving me a strange look as I walked towards a green post it stuck to the side of a locker. It was probably a note a teacher left but I still wanted to see.

Jackson pulled the sticky note off the locker door and held it so that I could see it.

7:45 P.M.

The note seemed very cryptic but then again, aren't 12th graders? It was the end of the school year too. It was probably just some crazy graduation party.

"Good luck avoiding the cops!" Jackson said as he placed the post it back where he got it. He was obviously thinking the same thing I was. There is no way you can party at a state park and not get run down by the police.

We then turned around and strolled back down the hall to the double doors on the other end. It was a nice day so we walked to school, only now we were sort of regretting it. The school wasn't that close and it was almost all up hill.

Not speaking much, we trudged home. I was sort of hoping Jake wasn't home because I wanted to take a nap. This walk was becoming worse by the second, Albuquerque sun beating down harder on us now. But if Jake was home, he'd be playing his music at top notch. Not that I hated his music, I actually don't mind it at all seeing as how it's almost all oldies rock, but I was worn out.

When I got home I was surprised that Jake really wasn't there. But that made sense. He was probably already out partying with his friends for possibly the last time. Hopefully not at Petroglyph, though. I don't want my only brother to be in jail for the night just because of some party. But Jake isn't stupid, he wouldn't do something dumb like that.

As I woke up from my nap I realized just how dark it was. It was 6:45! DANG!

I walked down the stairs, still half asleep, to find that my whole house is awkwardly quiet. What's going on?

In the kitchen Mom was washing dishes. I looked around to see if Jake was with her but he wasn't.

"Where's Jake?" I asked groggily, rubbing my eyes.

"I don't know, probably out with some friends. You hungry?" Oh right. He wasn't here after school either and most parties don't end until 1. I still can't help but think, however, that he's out getting in trouble. I don't want to lose my brother until I have to. Stupid collage.

"Ya, I'm sort of hungry. I'll just fix a frozen pizza."

ya so it's short. Live with it. Also I'm just gonna go ahead and say that I only ended this chapter with frozen pizza because I love it. Guess what my favourite flavor is. Italian sausage. Guess why thats a problem. I am on the verge of being a vegetarian. GAHHHHHHH! Its killing me!
