The (Original) Winter Soldier

-1991-

The time following arriving to that island after escaping Hydra's clutches gave me a chance to really be alone and off the grid so I decided to perfect my craft. I taught myself to be a killing machine, no one could stop me if they tried. In the early 1990's I decided to come out of hiding and stalk some old friends. 

Hydra wasn't completely dealt with by the 'super soldier' that Erskine made, so they've been doing there dirty work for years right under everyones noses. I snuck into their facility and saw them torturing one of the men who had been injected apparently years prior. I kept hearing them say something about 'cryosleep'. Apparently the man they were shocking was their best assassin and he was going to kill someone with the last name, "Stark." They were very intent on him doing so. They chanted something familiar after they were done frying him. I got closer when I recognized it as what they kept chanting after they shocked me. After they finished, the guy turned toward them and asked in Russian, "Ready to comply." They gave him the mission and he looked like he was lifeless behind the eyes as he went straight for some weapons and followed them out of the room. 

I waited a few minutes before I jumped down and grabbed the file next to the shocking contraption. I made my way back up to the rafters before fleeing back to my hideout just a few miles from Hydra's base. I settled on one of the abandoned chairs and opened the file. "James Buchanan Barnes. Sergeant in the US Army. Born March 10th, 1917. 28 years old as of January 1945. Keep in crytosis, use as needed. Subject is too dangerous to be kept awake in between missions." I sigh as I try to think of why the name 'Barnes' is of any importance to me. I close the file after reading his missions up until today. I keep thinking until I reach a memory, that night I was watching Erskine, I remember the two women watching and giggling as that guy who was with the super soldier walked back over to them. I tried to remember what happened before that when I recall one the women yelling something 'Barnes'. I put two and two together and come to the conclusion that she must've called him Sergeant Barnes. The guy from that night was the assassin I just saw being controlled by Hydra? What in the hell did I miss? He must've been given the serum at some point, the brainwashing that they tried on me must've worked on him. That means he's probably lethal so if I have a run in with him, I'll have to be extremely vigilant since he is more than likely just as strong or stronger than me. He also had a metal arm, which if I'm honest, I couldn't find an answer for in my own brain so I picked up his file once again and read that he survived a fall from a train and lost his left arm. Dr. Zola apparently was able to fix him up and brainwash him in the process. They apparently freeze and zap him often according to his records, it's actually kind of sad. I finish researching Barnes and decide to bring back his file so they don't know I was ever there.

-2014- 

I've been in New York for quite sometime and noticed a group called, 'The Avengers' attracts a lot of bad guys. I saw a man flying at some point, he talked a lot and called himself, 'Thor.' It was a very weird situation, I was able to stay in the shadows while they handled it though. I learned what internet was and when I learned how to use it, I taught myself how to hack. I hacked into Hydra's database a year or two ago and saw they put what they were calling, 'The winter soldier' back in his frozen state. He's been out a few times since 1991 but nothing was anywhere near me or about me so I didn't pay it much attention. I did however, watch him complete any and all of them, studying how he fought and how he went about the things he did so I could never lose to him. He wears a mask now, one just like mine. I got it while I was with Hydra so I guess that makes sense. I also noticed he had a newer version of my star buckle on his arm. I sat around in the dingy abandoned apartment for days before my computer chimed. I rushed over to it and saw a notification that The Winter Soldier had been awakened again and his mission this time was to take out some people from S.H.I.E.L.D. The mission was sent from an encrypted version of Shield's mainframe though. Odd. Why would shield reach out to Hydra for something to be dealt with on the inside? Couldn't they handle it on their own? Shield is in my part of town though so I decided to get going. I had a bag packed and my computer in my hand. I was about to head toward the door before I saw something out of the corner of my eye. It looked the reflection of a gun so I focused my hearing in it's direction as I stood as still as possible, I heard the gun cock and the trigger pull so I flipped backwards away from the bullet and started running toward the door.
