[Flashback in Third Person POV]

A young girl was sitting on the school swing set, alone, with no one paying any attention to her. She didn't mind, though. She was completely used to not having friends to hang out with. Every recess she would make a bee-line to the swing set, where she felt like she was on the top of the world. The young fourth grader excelled in her classes, earning above average grades for everything. With no friends to play with or parties to go to she had all the time in the world. The little girl was deep in thought when a boy about her same age walked over and sat plopped down on the swing next to hers. The girl gave him a slightly confused look.

'Why would someone want to be on the swings? No one ever goes on the swings, and definitely not next to me... He probably hadn't seen me yet.' The young girl thought. However invisible she felt, that was most certainly not the case. If anyone was avoiding her, it was because she was always too shy to say anything (except when called on in class, and even then she was quiet and timid). There were a small handful of children who actually went up and tried to talk to her, but unfortunately she was just too deep in thought.

The little fourth grader had anxiety issues. She worried about anything and everything that could possibly happen, whether it was about school, people, family, or anything. Speaking of family, the girl was an only child, so she didn't have siblings to talk to. Her parents were kind and caring, and with them she was more open and less timid.

She snapped out of her trance when a hand was waved in front of her face.
"Hi!" said the young boy that had sat on the adjacent swing. He had messy black hair and slight buck teeth, and he looked really friendly. She gave him a weak smile. "Hi."
"My name is John! What's yours?"

The young girl looked almost flustered. She couldn't remember when anyone at school actually opening struck up a conversation with her. Shaking the thoughts from her jumbled mind, she responded.
"My name is (y-y/n)."
"Nice! So do you ever actually swing or do you just sit there?" John asked innocently, cocking his head to the side.
"Oh, no I sometimes swing-" The timid girl was suddenly cut off by a squeal.
"Yay! Then why don't we swing together? It'll be fun!" The girl looked at her feet and giggled.
With a hopeful glint in her eye, she looked back at John.
"Sure, why not!"

And with that they spent the rest of recess swinging back and forth, laughing, without a care in the world.

[Flash forward to 7th grade Third Person POV]
Once again finding herself deep in thought at the wrong time, (y/n) was aimlessly walking through the school halls during passing period. One moment she was holding her binder and books, the next- nothing. A large, jock-like troll [no one we know!] had proceeded to shove (y/n) aside and knock her books to the floor [Cliche I know but bear with me].

Taking a second to register what had just happened, the girl sent the rude troll a glare that could burn through his skull. Some people had nothing better to do then bother others.
With the help of John and some of his friends, whom you liked very much, you had broken out of your shell a considerable bit.

While she promptly bent down to get her fallen books, she was met with what she hadn't had for long- supportive friends. John helped collect her books and papers while Jade and Jane were giving the unruly troll a firm and terrifying finger-pointing.

"Why don't you just go pick on someone your own size huh?!"
"Or better yet, don't pick on anyone at all! See how easy that is?! Problems solved! Now go away and stop terrorizing everyone at this school!" Jane and Jade had built up fury for this bully. He was notorious for picking on kids and never getting called out, but that was the day he cowered back in fear. The two furious girls really had no idea how scary they were when they were mad, but they can change back to kind, silly school-girls in a snap.

"Yeah. Seriously dude, that stuff's not cool."
At this the bully stood shocked. The "too cool for anyone else but his friends" Dave Strider had just called him out. With this, the troll had been taught his lesson and quickly left- after a forced apology from Jade, of course.

Turning back to (y/n), who had collected all of her papers and such, the band of friends walked fearlessly to their next classes.

[Present Day Third Person POV]
(y/n) really had changed throughout the years. Getting into swimming and various other sports kept most of her energy focused into competition, and she became less and less awkward with each passing day.

While she could now talk to new people with little to no anxiety, (y/n) still stayed with her group of faithful friends: John, Jade, Dave, Dirk, Jane, Jake, Rose, and even the tipsy Roxy on occasion. Her life had been changed in that respect, but she still rose to the top of every class, and exceeded the expectations of the whole world who had thought of her as "the girl who thought."
