Chapter 4: Boys On The Mind

The sunny day continued to shine all around as Skye and Everest made it to the
Adventure Bay Park. Birds chirped and tweeted as they flew around, and the
tree branches blew around back and forth from the light breeze above. Many
other families had taken advantage of the day as well as they were walking or
playing around on the jungle gym or the grassy plains.

"This was a good idea." Everest commented as she and Skye lightly jogged
around the park's paths; winding and wavering amongst the other people using
the walkway.

"You bet," Skye agreed, "I knew today would be sunny, so a visit to the park was
in order."

"Yeah, the park is so nice and well kept." Everest said as they jogged past a slide
and monkey bars, glancing over and watching the kids giggle and holler as they
jumped around.

Both pups continued to jog around the paths, talking and chit-chatting about
small topics before they delved into some juicy gossip.

"Soooo," mused Everest as looked over to her friend. "About earlier, and a
certain police pup...."

The Cockapoo gave her friend a glance as well. "W-what about him?"

"C'mon! You know what I mean." Everest smirked as the two passed a flower
bed. "I can tell you still have the hots for Chase. So, is it still a crush, or is it 'true
love'?"

Skye slowed down her jogging as her mind sped up in a flurry of signals;
thoughts and feeling crashing in contrast with each other. "Umm, uh.... Oh, gosh! Can we stop for a minute?" Her Husky friend nodded as they both slowed
down to a stop.

Both pups took a brief rest under a nearby oak tree, setting underneath to catch
their breath. To their left side was the pathway along with a bench and a few
flowerbeds. To the right was an open grassy plain where a group of boys were
playing a makeshift game of football. Above in the tree branches, a nest of baby
robins could be heard chirping as their mom came back with a worm for lunch.

"Looks like you've got more on your mind than I thought." Everest guessed as
she looked at her zoned out friend, her little paws rubbing her forehead in
meditation.

And she was right.

Skye was currently warring in her mind just how much she should tell her best
friend. "Do I have more than a crush on Chase? Like duh I do! I think it is 'true
love'....I think. Hmmm, maybe I'm letting my emotions go awry? *huff* I don't
know. Everest already knows I have a thing for Chasey - wait, did I just nickname
him? Grrrr! Heart, stay out of this; I'll get back to you later. My mind is trying to
think this through, doggone it! Anyway, she already knows, so I might as well let
her know more." The Cockapoo lowered her paws as she turned to the Husky
beside her.

"Whoah! You remembered I'm still here! I'm quite flattered." Everest let in a
mocking 'surprised' tone.

"Oh, har har har. I was just catching my breath and my thoughts." Skye rolled
her eyes.

Everest waved it away as she directed her friend back on topic. "Okay, back on
topic to what I asked before our break: Chase??" She raised a quisitive eyebrow
as she awaited an answer.

Skye gulped as she took a breath to clear her conscious. "Alright, so about C- Chase.... I still like him. A LOT. I think....honestly I'd have to say that, um, it's
grown a lot more than before."

"Oh? And what do you mean by it's grown?" Everest questioned further.

"I....how do I put it?" Skye mused aloud as she tried to form her thoughts into
words. "Well, for one, it's definitely more than a crush now; I can tell you that!
Chase just keeps coming back into my thoughts at random times. And why
wouldn't he? There's just so much! He's handsome, cute, strong, sleek. He's
mature but yet still knows when to relax and have fun. Plus, he's a good leader. Aside from Ryder, I've noticed that Chase always checks in on all us; makes sure
we're doing well, if we need anything, that type of stuff. *sigh* So dreamy...." The Cockapoo's cheeks began to heat up as she thought of the warm, fuzzy
feelings flowing through her veins revolving around said pup on her mind.
