Chapter 9: A Broken Assumption

Ryder,Skye and Everest are all prepared to go back to the lookout and call it day. Jake waved goodbye to Everest since she still needs some time to make up for what she said to Marshall,while Skye is trying her best not to fantasize Chase too much so she can focus and maybe one day,notice her.

"Goodbye Jake!" Ryder said waving his right arm.

"Goodbye Ryder! See ya soon Everest!" Jake said,waving back.

And so,Ryder and his pups drove back to the lookout. The lookout was a bit clean but also a little messy. Rubble is eating his pup food,Rocky and Zuma are playing hide and seek,but Chase and Marshall aren't around,which cause suspicion to Everest and Skye.

"Where's Marshall??? I bet he's still mad at me..." Everest thought to herself.

"This is great news... Chase is not around and I can fresh up without being too flustered!" Skye said in her thoughts.

"Okay girls,rest up. I've got a shed to fix with Rubble and Rocky." Ryder said as he hopped back in his automobile,followed by Rubble driving his bulldozer,and Rocky driving his truck.

"See ya Ryder!" Skye and Everest waved their paws as Ryder,Rocky and Rubble fade out in the distance.

"So Skye,what are you going to do today?" Everest asked and Skye simply scoffed at the question.

"I'll just go back to bed,I clearly don't need to think about last night." Skye said simply while walking back at her puphouse.

"But Skye,you-" Everest continued but Skye interrupted.

"Nope,I still don't forgive you about what you did last time,so if you leave me alone,I might forgive you..." Skye said sternly and closed her puphouse door,leaving Everest baffled for a moment there.

"Huh,I thought she was going to talk to Chase about last night.... I better find Marshall." Everest said as she started to walk around the lookout,looking for them.

Meanwhile inside the lookout,Zuma is practicing Pup pup boogie,still a little down after his loss to Skye.

"Come on Zuma! You can do this! If Skye can,you can." Zuma said to himself as he accidentally selected a very hard level(something that even Skye can't beat). He wasn't expecting that the charting was so hard,he constantly just tapped his foot on EVERY pad,missing and catching notes at the same time. At the end,he lost the level halfway and he was exhausted with his legs trembling.

"Oh come on... I didn't know I selected that level. I mean Skye has only made it to 72% of the level,but atleast I made it all the way to 67%... Speaking of Skye,where is she? She's been acting weird along with Chase last night..." Zuma thought to himself and Everest came up to him.

"Hey Zuma!" Everest said.

"Oh hey there Everest! Where's Skye?" Zuma asked and Everest hesitated to answer.

"Um... She was a "little"(I don't think it's little) mad at me for last night. She was currently sleeping in her puphouse." Everest said.

"Oh okay..." Zuma said as he selected a different level.

"Oh by the way,have you seen Marshall and Chase?" Everest asked Zuma.

"Well,they're hanging out by the beach. Chase and Marshall were actually talking about what you said to Marshy boi." Zuma said as he pressed his selected level.

"Oh... What was it about?" Everest asked again.

"Um... I don't know,I do know they're talking about you but I wasn't able to hear anything else." Zuma said as the level starts playing.

"Oh okay,thanks Zuma." Everest said as she went down the slide.

Everest saw the two guys playing ball at the beach and made her way towards them.

"Hey Marshall! Get over here!" Chase said as he launched a ball towards Marshall.

"Ha! Got it!" Marshall exclaimed but suddenly lost his balance and fell on the sand.

"Hi guys..." Everest approached them with a little blush on her face.

"Is Skye back home yet? I might have to talk to her about last night..." Chase said and Everest hesitated.

"Uh yes,she's in her puphouse." Everest said and Chase left Marshall with Everest.

"Uh.... Hey Marshall...." Everest said with a little embarrassment.

"Oh. Hey there." Marshall said a little sternly,still a little mad about what she said to him.

"Marshall.... I'm sorry for calling you 'Stupid-muffin'... I call you 'Stud-muffin' cuz you make me happy with your-" Everest continued but Marshall interrupted.

"Silliness? Ridiculousness? Humor?" Marshall asked and continued. "Everest.... It's not my fault I act like this. This is who I am.... I understand if you don't like it,but maybe you shouldn't have been harsh about it." Marshall said.

"No Marshall,I... I actually like that about you.... The fact that you put a smile on anyone's face just by being who you are is what makes me happy for you." Everest said with a smile and it made Marshall feel okay again.

"Really?" Marshall asked.

"How about we spend the rest of the day ourselves? Me and you,my treat." Everest said.

"I'd love that! Thanks Everest! You're the best friend (EMOTIONAL DAMAGE!) I ever have!" Marshall said,being oblivious,and hugged Everest. (Ouch.... friend-zoned....)

"You're welcome... Let's go now!" Everest said and Marshall followed. "He only sees me as nothing but a friend??? What if he doesn't likes me??? Calm down Everest,he's oblivious as usual so no need to worry. He'll find it out one day...." Everest thought to herself.

Skye was enjoying her self time,wearing her headphone and listening to aesthetic music when she heard a knock from her puphouse.

"Who is it?" Skye asked.

"Uh,it's me,Chase." Chase said.

"Oh... Uh Chase?" Skye started.

"Yeah?" Chase said.

"Oh no,he's here. I know I'm supposed to ignore him but now that he's here,my obsession is coming back again... Think Skye,think!" Skye thought to herself as she suddenly blurted out a bad sentence.

"Uh Skye?" Chase asked.

"CHASE! GET OUT! I'M TRYING TO FORGET ABOUT YOU-" Skye accidentally said and shuts her mouth. She can no longer hear Chase and when she opened the door,he wasn't around anymore. "UGH!!! SKYE,YOU'RE THE WORST!!!" Skye muttered to herself,as for now,she still needs her rest due to her headache.
