My eyes quickly shot open. Anna and I had made our way back to my apartment for some relaxing time before the concert. And, apparently, I had fallen asleep on my couch. "Good morning to you!" Anna said in an upbeat, singsong voice. She placed a plate of pizza in front of me. "Let's carb up before we get ready." I scratched my eyes as my vision began to adjust. My watch was charging in my bedroom so I had no idea what time it was. I squinted to look at the clock above my stove and read it was 3:02 pm. I let out a sigh of relief and picked up the plate of pizza.
Anna and I finished our meal almost simultaneously. I took the plate from her and loaded the rest of the dishwasher. I always had to make sure my apartment was tidy otherwise my clean freak brain would be overloaded with any mess that surrounded me. I glanced over in Anna's direction and noticed she was staring at me. "Finish cleaning up yet?" She teased. I smiled slightly and rolled my eyes. "Alrighty, I'm done. Let's go get ready."
Anna's outfit was one that only she could pull off. Her body type was vastly different than mine. Mine was more curvy while hers was thin and slender. She wore a romper that was flared at the bottom, scarlet in color with off the shoulder sleeves. Her long chestnut hair was in the process of having beachy waves put into them. She had put on white eyeliner that complemented her lash extensions well. Her eyeshadow was dark, but not dark enough to draw attention away from her eyes. Her eyes were a beautiful emerald color, so naturally her eyes were already attention drawing. She also had glued some diamonds to the wings of her eyeliner. Overall, she looked perfect.
I stared in awe at her while getting myself dressed. She glanced over at me and gave a warm smile. "What's up with you?" "You know how you said I was beautiful earlier? I think you meant yourself." I said, buttoning up my high waisted pants. She shook her head and hair sprayed her hair in place. "You don't know your own beauty, Charlene." I pulled a black mock neck shirt over my head and glanced at myself in the mirror. I never considered myself to be very beautiful. Sure, I was average at best, but it was Anna that always got the boyfriends and the compliments.
Once I finally got out of my toxic headspace, I put on my black combat boots. Not gonna lie, I felt pretty bad ass in them. Plus they added an inch of height so I felt just a tiny bit taller. I pulled out my phone again to check harryflorals Instagram and noticed that there was still no spotting of Harry out in Portland. I sighed in defeat, putting my phone in my back pocket. My dream of seeing Harry out and about in my hometown was unlikely.
After finishing my makeup and hair, Anna and I were finally ready to head to the venue. I did my makeup very similar to Anna's as I thought she was a genius. I let my natural waves fall over my shoulders as I decided to keep it down. Anna and I had doused ourselves in our favorite perfume: Her by Burberry. It was sweet, but not too strong.
It was 4:15 pm so we had plenty of time to travel there and find out parking spot. I jittered in my seat as Anna drove quickly down the road. We were listening to "To Be So Lonely" and singing along, quite poorly and loudly. Once we pulled into the parking lot, we flung our car doors open and began to dash to the general admission entrance. There was a gaggle of people trying to figure out where their spot in line should be. Anna told me to wait near the back of the line while she went to the front.
After a few minutes she returned and pulled my arm to follow her. We ended up being toward the front of the line. I had a feeling this number system was all wacked up and we were in the wrong area. "Are you sure we're in the right spot?" I said, looking around at the other magnificently dressed people surrounding. Anna nodded her head and pointed discretely to the people in front of us. "They said they're 200 so I'm going to assume we wait somewhere around here."
Before we knew it, the doors opened in front of us and the line began to slowly shuffle forward. Anna and I squealed at each other. This was it. Harry Styles was inside waiting for us. Just the thought of being so close to him made me feel intoxicated.
We reached the entrance and scanned our tickets. Once we went through security, we were on our way to the pit. Anna dragged me by the arm and walked with an increased pace. It was hard for my little legs to keep up, but I managed. We walked through a dark hallway and eventually entered the arena pit. There were not that many people surprisingly. Most of the people that were in there were already sitting next to the barricade. My heart sank a bit as I noticed this side of the stage is where he would spend most of his time.
"Quick, let's check the other side." Anna said dragging me with her. To our surprise, there were maybe 5 people on this side. We quickly rushed over to an open spot on the barricade and put our hands on it. We looked at each other and started giggling. "We did it!" Anna cheered, putting her arms around me in a tight hug. I embraced her and started wiggling. "I wonder how much he will be coming over on this side." I questioned out loud. Anna put her hands on her waist and looked at the stage. "Well, if he sees you he will be over here more often than you think." I raised an eyebrow at her and shook my head. "Sure, Anna. Sure."
The consequences of arriving to a concert very early meant there was a lot of standing and waiting around. Thankfully, the arena was playing some decent music so it made the time passing more bearable. We did not want to give up our spots so we made sure that if we had to use the restroom it would have to wait until after. Thankfully, both of us went before we left and we purposely did not hydrate ourselves. Probably not the smartest thing to do.
Anna and I had mainly sat on our phones just looking at TikTok and Instagram to pass the time. To conserve phone battery, we actually made small chat with other people around us. It was nice to know there were other people out there just as excited as we were.
Before we knew it, the opener was on the stage. We danced around to their songs, even though we had never heard them before. After about 45 minutes, the opener exited themselves off the stage. The lights returned in the arena and music began to play again. "Olivia" by One Direction immediately began to play and I heard blood curdling screams from around us. Anna and I gave each other wide eyes but then ended up singing along.
"Charlene, are you ready for this?" Anna asked as soon as the song was over. I took in a shaky breath and exhaled. "I think so. I don't know why I'm so nervous this time around." Anna looked me up and down. "I think it's because you look hot as hell and are gonna get noticed tonight." I gave her a small glare and then smiled.
Suddenly, the lights went off. The concert was starting. Harry Styles was about to perform right in front of my eyes.
