Where was she? Rush wondered as he paced to and fro by the lake.
She'd asked him to meet her by the lake at sunrise. For what reason, he had no idea. Rose was ever so unpredictable. One moment she was confessing her undying love for him and the next she's telling him she wants more than the kind of life he can give her.
He wasn't an heir like his brother, he wasn't extremely rich but he also wasn't poor. He could afford a decent home for them to live in and they'd be happy cause they have each other. He hoped it could be enough.
This is crazy
Was he going crazy? So lost in love, deeply caught up in her web that with just the batting of her lashes, she had him crawling at her feet and doing her wish.
That was Rose for you. So innocently beautiful, so seductively tempting, so maliciously manipulative. She draws you in so deep, and before you can blink, she has you dancing to her tune.
A month ago he'd decided never to be played by her but here he was, standing by the lake doing her bidding and for what? Just so she could choose him over his brother.
But she was already married to his brother yet he was hanging on the hope that maybe she loved him enough to leave his brother and marry him. They'll pick some place else to settle. He'll work extra hard to buy her the expensive clothes and jewelries she liked.

Last night at dinner when Dillan had surprised her with a gift, he couldn't help feeling hopeless. He couldn't even afford to buy her diamonds. No wonder she chose Dil over him. And the fool had to look so smug when he placed it around her neck. He couldn't take it. He couldn't watch his brother touch her like she belonged to him.
But she does belong to him.
He hadn't been able to take his eyes off her. And then she'd pled a headache and retired early, but not before signalling him to join her in the library. He was surprised she'd done that, not with Dillan watching them like a hawk.
Fortunately for him, Dillan had an appointment and also excused himself.
His golden opportunity. As soon as Dillan left the table, he waited ten minutes and then left.
The moment he got into the library, she threw herself at him.
"I was scared you wouldn't come." She whispered."I wasn't sure I'll come either. Not after how we parted last time" he murmured trying, without succeeding, to ignore how good her body felt, plastered to his. But his treacherous body, drawn to hers as always, began to stir.
The last time she'd refused his offer of eloping with him. He'd accused her of playing him and using him as her bitch. They got into it and separated, each one throwing a parting curse or two.
"I've missed you" he heard himself say.
His mind was battling with him not to give in. To tell her they could never be together. But then she leaned in for a kiss and all caution was thrown to the wind. Matching her need with his, he clutched her to him, hunger for hunger. He kissed her like he'd been running in the desert, starved and she was an oasis he was dying to drink from.
