It was late at night luffy, and Nami were talking and laughing and enjoying each other's company, something luffy had never really had the time for recently since he had to be constantly away doing extra time at the police station since they had been a bit low on staff lately thanks to the massive gang war.

That happened, killing thousands of innocents in the crossfire, and one victim was Luffy's brother Ace. He got severely injured thanks to trying to protect the only family he had; even if he knew that it was futile, it was the only thing his brain could think of doing at the time.

After passing out from his injuries and waking up in a hospital bed, he remembers one thought at the time going through his mind "IM A FAILURE" he tried and tried to move and was screaming to see his brother. It wasn't until he was full restrained that his nurse came and explained everything with hurt in her eyes, something he wasn't expecting.

So after he had calmed himself down and was alone with the nurse did, he ask her the question, "why did you look at me like that, as if you actually cared about me" the question threw the nurse off completely. Still, it didn't take her long to realise why he asked that question since it was widespread for people to hate anyone who even said they wanted to be a police officer.

So with a calm voice, she explained to the officer why she cared. It was a long story, and luffy hung on to every word about how she debt to her landlord and gangster Arlong and how this same man killed her mother as well as her name Nami.

These meetings kept on like this for the weeks that luffy had to wait to recover, something he didn't mind doing since just making her laugh or smile made the pain feel like nothing compared to the happiness he got from talking to her

And after he was cleared, he said his thanks and gave Nami his number privately since he didn't want to embarrass her in front of her friends. He didn't know what he was expecting, but her smiling and hugging him was not the first thing he thought she would do.

And after texting back and thinking, Luffy decided it was time for him to keep the mental promise he made to himself and put Arlong behind bars for as long as possible. And after getting and giving enough evidence and some private talks with the other people in the apartment district, Arlong owed.

Luffy and a couple of his friends went full swat mode on them since they were permitted by his gramps and orders from the man, " give him hell, Romano" give him hell was an understatement because as soon as that door was knocked down before they could react, they were punched kicked and tackled to the floor two unconscious thanks to Zoro and Sanji and Arlong was stunned and arrested not soon after that.

Luffy chuckles every time he remembers that since he remembers calling and telling her what happened, she couldn't reply for a minute, probably because she was processing that she was free, but after she asked him why he just replied with a simple "it's my job. Plus, I always liked the stories of the mighty knight rescuing a beautiful princess."

And that brings us back to the present day, under a calming night sky. Luffy thought it was about time they took another step, so he turned her around and gazed at her gorgeous face, her brown eyes; he would gladly get lost in her orange hair that looked majestic flowing in the night sky, and her soft red lips that drew him In and to his surprise was met half.

After they separated, all Luffy needed to see was her smile and for his to know they thought the same thing before going in for another one "fairytales and movies don't give that magical and beautiful moment justice", and it's something that will stick, with them as one of their many great adventures and memories together.
