Staring out at the stars from the balcony of his apartment, Raikyr sighed. "Why?" He asked aloud to no-one, an empty wine bottle gripped in his hand. He may have been a bit drunk, as he'd gone through two and a half wine bottles. He hadn't been able to complete college, he'd been doing so well, but everything changed on him. His girlfriend of 4 years left, his mother passed away, his grades had dropped and so he simply dropped out, too depressed and unwilling to try. He hadn't had many friends, if you could even call them that. His family lived halfway across the country and he had no one.
What use was life if he couldn't be successfully. The darkness clouding Raikyr's mind made him feel isolated and alone. His body was cold despite the warmth of the night breeze. He looked at the empty bottle and felt like he was going to cry, but anger gripped him and he smashed the bottle into the wall of the building.
"Mrrow?"
Raikyr looked down at the little white cat that sat on the railing. He sighed and reached over, scratching behind her ears. "I know I still have you Luna," he said, petting the cat he adopted when he had moved into this apartment. She was a sweet cat and often times could be found wherever he was.
Ignoring the ringing of his phone, which had been blowing up all night from his father trying to demand he explain his dropping out, Raikyr went back to looking at the stars. Many times he wished there was something out there, something otherworldly that would take him away from this lonely place and give him a purpose or just something better than this boring place.
Suddenly, a shooting star shot across the night sky and Raikyr stood straight. Without even thinking he spoke aloud, "I wish I could be taken away from here and live an exciting life. I wish I could be a somebody."
Luna meowed at him again and he looked at her. Nothing happened. Why would something happen? Everyone knew wishes were merely that, just a wish. He sighed. "It was only a joke, I would never leave you behind," he said to the cat, scooping her up in his arms. But as he was just about to head inside, a brilliant white light blinded him and he felt something implanting into his neck.
A loud wail came from his cat and he panicked. "Luna!" He cried out, no longer feeling her in his grasp. He felt light weight as he tried to move and no longer were his feet on the ground. Panic and fear consumed him, but before he could do anything else, darkness consumed him.

"No distractions this time Braizen!" A harsh voice snapped over a small speaker on the ship's main control panel. "You've already got 9 strikes, you don't want to get to 10! Boss wants this shipment delivered on time this time!"
"Yeah, yeah, I got it Vrbin, no distractions." Sighing, Braizen put the space ship on cruise and watched the silent movie playing on the window of the ship. The blackness of space worked well to make sure the images on the screen weren't distorted. Vrbin was always on his ass about not being late to deliver shipments and travel to the outer regions of the galaxy to document stars and distant planets.
The communication cut off and Braizen sunk down in his chair. His reflection in the glass stared back at him as he took his eyes off the movie. His hair was a purple mess and his eyes had bags under them, the fuchsia color dulled. He was a Voiken, a sentient race on planet Levnar. Unlike most of his race, Braizen was a loner, which made him great as a scout, but that didn't mean he liked being alone.
Yellow lights suddenly blared on the control board and Braizen clicked off the movie. He sat up alert and watched as the monitor indicated a transmission. Usually he didn't get transmissions this far from Levnar, only calls directly through his personal line connected to the ship.
'I wish I could be taken away from here and live an exciting life. I wish I could be somebody.'
The words had been translated by the ship's internal translator. He pulled up the spacial information and scrolled through the planetary information until he landed on one.
Earth.
Bringing his ship to a stop, Braizen turned on the other monitor that was attached to a telescope. It was a high-res scope and he was able to fine tune it to see the exact location and being that had sent him the transmission. "Screw Vrbin," he mumbled, he was going to go get that human and answer his wish.
