"Ever just wanted to get back-hugged?"
The cool night breeze hit their faces and they both shivered slightly from the cold. Standing on the hotel balcony with the black mountains shining with white tops in the moonlight, it almost felt surreal.
Jin and Jisoo stood there silently not knowing how to start a conversation. It wasn't awkward but it wasn't comfortable either. Jisoo's mind was clouded with confusion as to why Jin called her outside.
"Why did you call me outside?" she blurted out as Jin looked at her wide-eyed trying to respond properly. Why did he call her outside? He just felt like it.
It was that spontaneous reaction that occurred between his fingers and his heart to call her outside. Well, now his mind wasn't cooperating much. He tried to scan his mind for any good excuse to make her believe.
"Jin, answer me," her soft giggles cut through his thoughts as he looked at her, his heart leaping from just her laughter. This was not good, he was too whipped for a person he knew a relationship could never work with.
Teenage relationships never work out. This what he had heard from everyone he had known?
On the other hand, Jisoo got a bit worried about Jin constantly spacing out. "Yeah, Kim," she shook him lightly making him blink multiple times before looking at her.
"Because I missed you," he yelled out as an answer to why he called her outside and slapped a hand over his mouth in realisation. For a second, Jisoo's mind went blank but she retained it quickly enough.
She giggled in amusement and slowly pulled away Jin's hands from his mouth as she stood facing him holding hands. "You missed me? Where did you copy that line from?" she chuckled as Jin felt shy and looked away.
Jisoo suddenly became conscious too and let go of Jin's hands and rested against the balcony. The silence was killing her and thus she spoke up, "Why is it still not snowing in this region of Jeju?"
"It will in some days hopefully," Jin quietly replied and once again the silence hung in the air. "I am cold, I am going in," Jisoo said after some time with a lingering feeling that Jin would stop her. Even a small 'no' will suffice.
Jin panicked hearing her, it had just been fifteen minutes and she was already leaving. He had to stop her somehow, he wanted to spend more time with her. "It is not that cold," he blurted out as Jisoo looked back hopefully. "Yes, I was overreacting," she laughed standing beside him again.
Jisoo was clever enough to wear some thermals before coming out and she didn't feel that cold but Jin? He was dying right then. He was just wearing his silk pyjamas and two puffy jackets over them are legs felt like sticks and he wasn't sure he had the legs anymore.
Jisoo was wearing a cap and scarf which Jin had forgotten in the excitement. The temperature of five degrees Celsius and the cold winter air weren't helping him much. His nose had turned red and his cheeks felt like burning. Jisoo noticed that.
"Jin let's go inside, you are dying," she whispered as he tried to deny but she dragged him closing the balcony door softly. Once inside Jisoo could hear Jin's teeth chattering as she hurriedly poured him a glass of hot water from the common dining room. They sat quietly as he drank it and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Jisoo giggled seeing Jin and booping his nose as he pouted at her antics. "You look like Rudolf," she laughed quietly as Jin muttered, "Details, details." Jisoo suddenly stopped laughing as Jin grabbed her hands and held them tightly, both of them.
"What are you doing?" she asked confused as Jin replied, "Rudolf needs warmth. So he is holding your hand," as Jisoo's mouth parted in surprise. They sat quietly, Jisoo's hands intertwined with Jin's until they checked the wall clock.
"Oh my god, it is three," Jisoo whisper-shouted as Jin's eyes widened remembering they had to leave at seven the next morning. So they have to wake up at six. Three more hours of sleep.
He abruptly let go of her hand as both rushed towards their respective rooms when suddenly Jin back-hugged Jisoo. "What?" Jisoo replied flustered, the warmth of Jin's body transferring to hers as he whispered, "Thanks for coming and taking the risk." She staggeringly replied with a 'welcome' before getting inside the room to hide her red cheeks.
She tried to calm her beating heart before getting off her jacket and thermal and softly slipped inside her bed while her parents slept soundly. She felt tired and decided to give a thought to all the events the next day.
Meanwhile, Jin couldn't stop grinning, he smiled fondly remembering Jisoo's flustered face when he held her hand and how warm her hands were. He smiled stupidly being the lovesick teenager he was as he stepped inside his bed and covered his body with the duvet.
Maybe they have some chance after all.
