Sarah's POV
We sat there in a tapestry of emotions, crying and hugging each other amidst the soothing glow of the moonlight. In that moment, I felt a deep sense of gratitude wash over me. Instead of rejecting me like Abhishek had warned, my friends were here, standing by me. They had chosen to embrace my pain rather than abandon me.
"Thank you, Thi," I whispered, tightening my grip around her as if trying to draw strength from her warmth.
"Okay, girls... it's time to sleep," Sharad announced, resting a comforting hand on our shoulders. "Your problems are our problems; we'll fight this together. So remember, you're never alone."
With those words, I felt a flicker of hope ignite in my heart. We sat there for a while longer, enjoying the serenity of the night, the moon casting a gentle light on our friendship.
Eventually, Sharad helped us up, and together we made our way back inside. But as I entered our room, I realized Aryan was still gone. A sudden rush of concern overtook me. What if he stayed out on the terrace too long? He could get cold. I grabbed a blanket and hurried toward the terrace, worry gnawing at my insides.
As I approached, I spotted Aryan hunched over on a bench, his posture betraying the weight of his thoughts. It pierced my heart to see him like that, lost in a world of contemplation.
"Are you still sitting here, you fool?" I teased gently, taking a seat beside him and wrapping the blanket around us. I could see the shadows on his face, a silent testament to the turmoil raging within.
I longed to pull him into my arms, to make him feel safe and needed, but I understood him well enough to know that he was a proud man who often kept his emotions closely guarded. I admired his strength, but watching him struggle made my heart ache.
Moonlight bathed us in a soft glow, and I caught him stealing glances at me. My heart fluttered under the intensity of his gaze—those deep, mesmerizing eyes seemed to pull me into a universe where only we existed.
"Why are you looking at me? Do you have something you want to say?" I asked, glancing up at the moon to break the heavy silence that lingered between us.
"Sarah, I'm sorry," he said, his voice thick with sincerity. "I shouldn't have accused you like that. It was the heat of the moment." I turned to him, noticing the guilt etched across his features.
"Apology accepted, since you're sincere," I replied, trying to lighten the mood. "Now let's drink to celebrate our reunion!" I flashed him a smile, hoping it could warm his heart as it had warmed mine.
I admired how deeply he felt, even amidst fear and uncertainty. His honesty radiated from him, wrapping around me like a comforting embrace, a reminder of the bond we shared. The wind picked up, tousling my hair, and I tucked it behind my ear, gazing at him with a mixture of comfort and excitement.
But there was a shift in the air, as if something lingered between us, waiting for the right moment to pour itself into the space we shared. My pulse quickened, aware that Aryan was holding back something significant, a truth that needed to be voiced.
"Can you hug me, Sarah?" he suddenly asked, his penetrating gaze locking onto mine. The invitation was laced with vulnerability, and my heart raced as I prepared to respond.
"Are you having a hard time at work?" I asked, concern creeping into my tone as I searched his face for answers. His eyes mirrored uncertainty, which danced behind his facade of confidence.
"Okay, but just a hug," I finally conceded, and he pulled me into his arms before I could fully process my consent.
"You are an amazing woman, Sarah," he murmured into my hair, his sincerity wrapping around me like a warm blanket. The scent of his cologne mingled with something uniquely Aryan, a fragrance that filled my senses and made me feel cherished. I wanted to stay enveloped in this moment forever.
I hugged him back tightly, feeling the rhythm of our heartbeats sync—a melody of connection that made the world around us blur into insignificance.
"You are weird, you know," I mumbled against his shoulder, unable to suppress the joy radiating through me, even amidst the lingering twinge of nervousness.
In that electric embrace, a realization struck me: I didn't want to let go. I ached to hold onto this moment for as long as possible, knowing that deep down, there was more to us than the struggles we faced.
"Good night, Aryan," I said softly, an unexpected wave of hesitation washing over me as I pulled away from his warmth.
"Good night, my kitty," he replied, his eyes sparkling with something I could not quite decipher—a promise, perhaps?
He reached for my hand, and our fingers intertwined as we made our way back to our room. The simple connection felt so right, so comforting. As I walked beside him, I couldn't help but wonder if this was the beginning of something beautiful, something that would deepen with time. Yet, underneath it all, a fear gnawed at me. What if he discovered my past? Would he still want me? Would he see me as tainted?
Aryan... I love you.
I love you so much it hurts sometimes.
The deeper I fell for him, the harder it became to face the inevitable truth of my past.
That night, as I drifted off to sleep, tears filled my eyes. I wrestled with the duality of my feelings: love for him and fear of losing him. I prayed for the strength to confront the challenges that lay ahead—a truth that had the power to either bind us closer or tear us apart.
