CHAPTER 12

YAMIHLE'S POV
Currently I'm watching my neighbor's goats.I don't do  much, I just  make sure they don't wander off .At the end of the day I make sure none of the goats is missing .A girl has to do something in other to fulfil her needs.

Yhooo I thought people were lying when they say that parents by law are monsters . They can take your dignity and respect and kick it to hell.

After that morning I couldn't see Asa as much we wanted because I was avoiding him. I know it's not his fault that his parents are evil and enemies of progress. But still I was the fool that got humiliated.

I almost peed on myself when I was chased by some dogs that morning. I didn't see where they came from but they really made me lose approximately 2,5 kilograms.

Now it is December and exams are over. Grade 12 examinations are over too. It was a very critical time but I pulled through as a result my academic results where above what I expected. My academic results:

IsiXhosa. :75%
English. :90%
Mathematics. :96%
Life Orientation. :77%
CAT. :90%
Life Sciences. :88%
Physical Sciences. :92%

And my average was 87%. My family couldn't believe it. Enzokuhle's father even started accusing me of sleeping with the teachers so that I can get good marks.

Lunathi told me that Asa is proud of me. And that he could not wait to spoil me when he comes back.

Thing is Asanele is at the initiation school. He is with his friends .

Initiation school is also called ulwaluko. It is like intonjane but for males not females. Ulwaluko it is when young males are being taught and prepared for the responsibilities of adulthood.

Abakhwetha , the initiates, are taken away from their homes and live at amabhoma, the huts, in the forest. They follow a special diet for example, there's is no salt in their food for a certain period of time.

During this period the girlfriend of umkhwetha , the initiate , must be loyal. She must not be sexually active during this period because it is believed to bring bad luck for umkhwetha . As a result the poor guy might die .

I'm really scared for Asanele because some initiates die there. The conditions they live under are not good. I've heard the initiates are forced to go for days without water or they get small amounts of water.

"Yamihle!"

I looked to see who was disturbing me on such a hot day.

It was Livumile Camagu and Zenzi . Yhoo lord have mercy.

What do they want because Livumile is not a friendly soul. Zenzi is Livumile's cousin who lives in Gqeberha . She likes to brag about the fact that she lives in the town and stuff .

I cleared my throat and then forced a smile.

Me: Ah Livakele ,long time no see.

She rolled her eyes and gave me the dirty look. What's wrong with people giving dirty looks nowadays.

Livumile: It's Livumile not Livakele.

Me: Ncow-some . Princess is offended.

She looked at Zenzi.

Zenzi: I see you haven't changed Yamihle. Still the same little village moron.

Me: Ncoo. I see you haven't changed. Still the same dump Zenzi . Pregnant again ? I wonder who's the dad now.

I smiled as I folded armys . Haa take that idiot.

You see Zenzi and I ,we were friends at some point in life but we called things off when she wanted to break my relationship with Asa.
