Time seemed to inch by slowly as the day finally came to a close. Everyone began making their way out for the day, but Caitlyn stayed planted in her seat as she stared at her screen. She hadn't gotten much work done throughout the day, instead, she tried finding information on her coworkers and the inconspicuous boss that seemed to be threatening them. She stared silently at her screen that had long gone blank, a feeling of hopelessness filling her chest.
She had looked up everyone on her floor, and not one of them came up on public records. She couldn't even find Dylan - it was as if his entire identity had been deleted, even before he disappeared on them.
What she found most surprising was when she looked up Nick. The only record she could find for a Nicholas Robinson born on his birthday was a death record from three years ago. She couldn't help but wonder what the hell was going on and why everyone around her was lying.
"Caitlyn?" Luke asked softly, snapping her out of her thoughts. "Hey... you ready to head out for the night?" Caitlyn looked up quickly and took a deep breath, staring at the man she thought was becoming her friend. "Do you need a ride or anything?" She just shook her head in response and looked back down toward the floor.
"Nick's getting off earlier today," she said softly. "We're going home as soon as he's done." Luke nodded reluctantly before glancing towards the elevator.
"Do you want me to wait with you?" Caitlyn looked up at him, sensing his nerves.
"Luke..." she muttered softly. "Is something going on?" He took in a sudden breath and glanced around, biting his lip. Caitlyn noticed a small hole on his bottom lip, the scar of something in his past. "What is everyone hiding from me?" Luke took in a deep breath and glanced over at Dylan and Thomas who were talking quietly in the conference room. Urie stood in his own office, running a hand through his wild hair as he spoke to Grant. Everyone else had left for the night. He looked back to Caitlyn and sighed softly.
"Nothing is as it seems here," he said suddenly, leaning down to be at the same level as her. "They don't want to get you involved, but you've already been dragged in-" the elevator dinged suddenly and he looked over, feeling the blood drain from his face as he saw Nick. "Talk to me later, but stay alert, Cait... and whatever you do; don't tell Nick anything." Before she could ask anything else, Luke hurried away, pushing past Nick, and disappearing into the elevator.
"Hey, baby," Nick said, wrapping his arm around her waist. "Everything okay?"
"Yeah," she said, pressing a soft kiss on his cheek and grabbing her briefcase. "Can we just go home? I'm tired."
"Of course, babe." He wrapped his arm around her shoulders and began leading her toward the elevator. "Hey, I thought your briefcase was taken," he said, flicking the strap of the bag softly as he stopped in his place.
"Oh... yeah. Thomas actually found it," she said softly. "He said it was in the... parking lot." Nick nodded softly in response, a dark look in his hazel eyes.
"Nick!" a sudden voice called from behind them. Nick and Caitlyn turned around quickly, seeing Dylan charging over. Nick shoved Caitlyn slightly to the side as Dylan suddenly punched the man in the face.
"Dylan! Oh my god!" Caitlyn shouted. Dylan tackled the man to the ground, beginning to beat him senseless. "Dylan! Stop it! Stop!" Thomas ran out from the conference room, grabbing his friend and pulling him away. Nick jumped up from the ground as Grant and Brendon ran out of the office and hurried over as Caitlyn helped hold Nick up.
"What the hell's going on?" Brendon shouted as Grant helped Thomas hold Dylan back.
"Stay the fuck away from my sister!" Dylan shouted. "Don't drag her into this shit!"
