A loud whistle echoed off the walls as Caitlyn sat silently in the office. She glanced around to find the source of the sound, only to realize that she was alone. The lights suddenly flicked off, and she sighed softly. She reached down and grabbed her briefcase, beginning to walk towards the elevator to leave for the day. She stopped suddenly in her spot and looked down at the case in her hand, remembering that she had lost it. The whistling echoed louder through the office and Caitlyn turned around quickly, seeing two shadows appear in the distance.
"Hey there, cupcake," the deep Australian accent cut through the room. She let out a shallow breath and began backing away as the figures made their way towards her. She stopped when her back hit the wall and began fumbling with the button to the elevator, begging it to open. The men were quickly closing in on her, so she did the only thing she could think to. She turned and ran towards the stairs, screaming for help as the two men followed her. She quickly made her way up the steep stairs, hoping to find her fiance. The stairs seemed to stretch on for miles, seeming to grow farther with every step she took. She glanced down and saw the two men gaining speed.
Finally, she burst out onto the upper floor, looking around desperately for her fiance.
"Nick?" She shouted. "Nick!" She stopped suddenly when she saw a conference room, filled with her coworkers. They were speaking in hushed tones as Brendon stood at the head of the table, pointing at a presentation that displayed an image of her face. Thomas stood quickly in between them, staring at Caitlyn for a moment before drawing the blinds. Caitlyn felt a sudden hand grip her wrist and she turned to scream before a breath of relief escaped her lips.
"Baby? What's wrong?" Nick asked, hugging her tightly.
"Th-they're here," she whispered. "They followed me..." Michael and Ashton suddenly stepped out of the stairwell, smirking softly at the young girl. Caitlyn quickly hid behind Nick, shaking in fear. Nick turned and looked at the two men before looking down at his fiance.
"It's okay, Caitlyn," he muttered, pulling her out to stand on her own. "It's all just a part of the plan..." suddenly, he pushed her towards the two men. A loud scream sounded from her lips as a sudden buzzing sound pierced through the air.
Caitlyn's eyes shot open as a staggered breath escaped her lips. A gentle sob fell through as she darted up quickly. Everything was dark around her and she felt panic rising in her chest as the loud buzz continued around her.
The buzz cut out suddenly and she felt a pair of arms snake around her waist, causing her breath to hitch in her throat.
"Caitlyn?" Nick asked suddenly, turning the lamp beside their bed on. She felt her anxiety settle as she took in her surroundings, realizing that it was all just a dream. She sat back and settled into Nick's arms, letting out a shallow breath. "What's wrong, baby? Are you okay?" Her dream began slowly fading from her mind as she tried to steady her fast breaths. "Caitlyn?" She turned and looked at him, taking in a deep breath.
"I just had a nightmare," she whispered. "I'm fine..." Nick sighed and brushed his thumb gently over her cheek, examining the bandage that hid her cut.
"Maybe you should stay home from work today, babe... you need time to process everything." Caitlyn snuggled up against him, shaking her head in response.
"I'm fine," she muttered. "Besides... I don't want to stay home alone..." Nick sighed and hugged her tightly from behind.
"Well, tonight, I'm canceling my meetings. You're not walking home ever again." Caitlyn let out a breathless laugh and nodded in agreement. "We should get ready to go..." Caitlyn sighed softly as she turned to look at him.
