SOME MIGHT wonder why exactly you thought your plan was bound to fail. In your genius, you had come up with three solid reasons. One, you had run into Fred and George Weasley after three successful years of avoidance. Two, you found out that your semiannual dining car naps had earned you the label of "the Ravenclaw that is always asleep in the dining car". Three, Malfoy had added to your list of embarrassing labels by calling you his "mummy". And just to top it all off, why not add another reason to the damn list: there was a damn Dementor staring you down.
You were most definitely not going to achieve your plan.
Malfoy screamed bloody murder as you pinned yourself to the back of your seat, unable to tear your gaze away from the damn thing. Everything felt cold. As you sat there, the very real idea of being all alone for another year permeated your thoughts. It was the only thing running through your mind, so much so, that you had almost forgotten you were in the presence of a Dementor. You had just barely registered the tears falling from your eyes until a bright light shook you out of your trance.
The dementor hissed as the light pushed it away from the compartment replacing it with a scruffy old man whose wand was pointed straight at it. He stopped in front of the compartment and tossed a bar of chocolate onto the trunks on the floor. "Eat that and stay in here," the man ordered, shutting the door afterward. You blinked a few times and eventually brought a hand to your face, surprised at your dampened cheeks.
"Well. That was...interesting," Lee began quietly, reaching over to the bar of chocolate as Malfoy tore himself away from you once more.
"That... didn't happen!" Malfoy exclaimed, turning around to peek out the door, glaring at the four of you before rushing back to wherever he had come from. You sighed, wiping at your tears with a sniffle. If you remembered correctly, Dementors caused anyone near them to feel utter despair. It was the only reason you could come up with to explain your sudden tears.
"Hey, you good there?" asked... George— if you were correct, then he was the twin with a mole on his neck. You filed away the information as you gave George a half-smile.
"All good."
"Those things are terrible creatures, I tell you," George sighed, leaning back into his seat while Fred nodded along.
"They freeze your insides," added Fred. You felt a chill run down your spine once more, your smile falling instantly. You really hoped you wouldn't run into one again.
"Why are they even here?" whined Lee, breaking off a piece of the chocolate bar and then handing it over to you. "It's not like Sirius Black is going to come study at Hogwarts!" You nodded along, breaking a piece off for yourself to eat. The twins shared a look, almost as if they knew something either of you didn't. You gave them a curious glance as you handed Fred the chocolate, hoping to find an answer in their faces.
But everyone knew Sirius Black was after Harry Potter.
"Harry Potter, that's why," you mumbled to Lee, ignoring another shared look between the twins, "the poor kid can't ever seem to catch a break." And neither can I, you thought to yourself, biting into your chocolate. A wave of ease washed over you and a smile tugged at your lips once more. "I feel bad for him really," you continued, looking up from your chocolate, "I couldn't imagine having to face the threat of You-Know-Who."
