Rory's fingernails push into the skin of my trembling thighs, as her tongue moves faster and faster on me, sending me really close to the climax. Fuck, the woman can use her mouth! My fists clench Rory's dark hair and I come hard, screaming my girlfriend's name.
As I catch my breath, I look down and meet Rory's dark eyes which are now glimmering with satisfaction. She licks her lips, and that gesture ignites another spark of desire in me. Rory Davila will be my undoing. I've always known it, but now I'm more sure than ever: I will die spent with her head between my legs one day, and it will be the best death ever!
"Come here, you!" I urge her, and when she's lying next to me I kiss her and taste myself on her mouth. "Fuck, that was good!"
"I thought it was always good," she smirks and I roll my eyes.
"Alright, it was better than good, it was mind-blowing. Exactly what I needed after the day I've had."
The mere thought of my lessons of that day is enough to bring back the headache that had initiated that love-making session—a successful attempt to make my pain go away.
"Tell me about it," she sighs. "I gave Ramona Vicente five TOEIC reading tests for today. FIVE. And she gave no more than twenty-five correct answers in any of them. We've spent months revising the grammar, and we've been working on that damn reading for three lessons. I don't know what else to do with her."
"I don't think you can do anything, she's just hopeless." It always pains us to admit that a student can't improve, no matter what, but sometimes we have to face the truth. Some people just can't learn languages. "I had her three years ago when she was attempting the B1 in Bulats, and I was as frustrated as you are now. She'll never get that B2, trust me. She'll never get an A2, for that matters."
"I guess you're right. But anyway, why are we even talking about our hopeless students as we lie naked in bed?"
"You started it!" I point my index finger at her. "I just said I had a headache, and that I had a bad day at work. Believe me, Ramona Vicente wasn't even crossing my mind before you mentioned her."
Rory giggles and then looks at me dead serious. "What about Lilian?"
"Excuse me?" I can't believe my ears. What does Lilian have to do with that conversation, or us naked in bed together?
"She's calling you," Rory says gesturing to my phone that is currently vibrating on the nightstand. Lilian's name is indeed on the screen.
"Whatever," I shrug, and I don't even bother rejecting the call. "And to answer your question, Lilian wasn't on my mind any more than Ramona Vicente was. Wanna know what is, instead? Food! We haven't had dinner yet, and you know how hungry I get after making love."
Rory shakes her head and we reluctantly leave the bed and head to the kitchen so we can put something together for dinner. It's almost eleven at night—that's what happens when you finish work at nine-thirty and you jump into bed the moment you arrive home—so we don't have that many options that require a very short preparation. We opt for sandwiches. Rory isn't exactly happy with it—not the healthiest dinner—but it will have to do for tonight.
"She says she's still in love with you," Rory murmurs as we wait for the toaster to ping. Then, when she sees the quizzical look on my face, she clarifies who she's talking about. "Lilian."
"Oh!" I didn't realize we were still talking about her. "Well, she didn't actually say that. She said she made a mistake letting me go, and that she can live without me but doesn't want to. And then she agreed on being friends. JUST friends," I stress, because Rory and I used to be friends, too, before we started fucking each other's brains out every other day.
"Same thing. I don't know what you were expecting from that conversation, but I—" she pauses, then sighs. "I thought she wanted to apologize for the way she'd ended your relationship, to explain... or maybe even tell you that she was getting married to someone else, I don't know! Does it make me a bad person that I encouraged you to talk to her only because I was almost sure she didn't want you back?"
"Rory," I smile and take her hands in mine. "It doesn't make you a bad person. It makes you human. I'm sorry we didn't really talk about what happened and how you feel about it. Would you like to do it now?"
She looks like she's pondering on it, then she nods. "Yeah, I think we should."
"Alright. Is it a problem for you if Lilian and I are friends?"
Once again, Rory doesn't reply promptly, but she takes her time. I can picture the wheels in her brain turning as she tries to come up with an answer to such a difficult question. It might be extremely hard for her to accept that, and I know it. I feel bad, maybe I should have talked to her before I suggested being friends to Lilian.
"No, it's not," she says after what feels like an eternity. "I know how important she is to you, and it wouldn't be fair to deprive you of her presence in your life just because I'm a fundamentally jealous person. Of course knowing that she wants you back irritates the hell out of me, but your friendship won't be a problem because I trust you."
"I told her that it doesn't matter how she feels about me, or that she realized she made a mistake. As far as I'm concerned, that ship has sailed. I'm with you now, I WANT to be with you, and nothing can change that. SHE won't change that. And she understood. Knowing Lilian, I'm sure she will respect that. She's never been sneaky, or disrespectful to me—well, except when she ghosted me, but I think we've cleared the air about that one." A lot can be said about Lilian, but she would never hit on someone who's in a relationship and has told her she's not interested, not even if that someone is me, the supposed love of her life. I'm positive about that.
"Great, then," Rory smiles. "No problems on my part."
"Are you absolutely sure?" I push, because I can tell that something isn't quite right here. I mean, if she was really okay with me and Lilian being friends, then why did she bring it up earlier, while we were naked in bed together? Alright, Lilian was calling me, but I didn't notice, so she could have just let it go and ignore it.
"What do you want me to say, Sash?" she sighs. "Am I thrilled that your gorgeous ex, the woman you were with for eight years and who you often refer to as your family, and for whom I saw you pining for months is back? No, of course I'm not. Selfishly, I wish she had stayed in L.A. forever. But I don't want to be selfish with you, and I know how important she was and still is to you, so if clearing the air with her and you two being friends makes you happy, then I'm happy for you. Just be patient with me if sometimes I come up with some snarky remarks."
I smile. "Well, I happen to like your snarky remarks, and believe me, she deserves them. She might have given me a valid explanation for what happened, but I'm not convinced that fully excuses her behavior. Which means I might give my own contribution to those remarks."
Rory nods and smiles back. I've known since day one that this situation can't be easy for her, and that she might need some reassurance from time to time. And now the only thing I can think of to prove that my newfound friendship with Lilian doesn't change anything is to show her I am looking forward to our road trip together.
"Shall we finalize our itinerary?" I ask her when we are done with dinner, taking the notebook when we've been writing down all the places we want to visit from my bag. "August is not that far away, and as you said we'd better start booking some places if we don't want to sleep in the car."
Rory's face lights up, just like I hoped it would. Soon enough Lilian is, once again, the last thing on our minds.
Two hours later, our road trip itinerary is finally ready and we have already booked a couple of hotels in the most tourist places, just to be sure. In about a month, I will set off to wonderful Italy with my amazing girlfriend, and I couldn't be any more excited. I just hope July passes by soon, and without too much drama. I really need some peace and quiet in my life for a change!
