The doctor gave me some pills and the pills somehow resolved my coughing fit. The nurses and doctors took out a bunch of equipment that I didn't know the name of and laid them on the table next to my "bed"
"OK, Rose. Let's start your surgery process. We're going to give you a sedative so that you're sleeping through the pain. Alright?" the doctor asked. "OK." he replied when I nodded my head.
What happened next you say? Well, let's just say that I fell into a world of darkness, and I don't exactly know what happened. You know what? I'll just entertain you with my dreams. Isn't that the greatest thing you've ever seen? ANYWAYS. Back to my dreams.
Em was sitting in Aunty Em's SUV. A shiny, silver Nissan. They were driving to the cemetery a block away from Big Em's house. The ride was completely silent, except for the silent "hum" of the car's engine. Aunty Em grimaced at the awkward silence that hung between them and decided to turn on the radio to change the mood of the car. A weird, sad song came on about a guy mourning for his daughter. Yet, the person singing it was singing it in a popstar way and was like mixing sad with happy and getting the gooiest mess ever made in music history.
Emily propped up her chin on her arm and looked at Big Em driving the car, her expression and mood matching the song. "But I guess it matches the mood. Well, mostly dad." Emily's eyes welled up at the thought of sad dad (Hey, that rhymes!) and turned her head away from Aunty Em so that she could cry in peace without anyone seeing her. Emily looks out the window during the rest of the car ride with silent tears streaming down her face.
In a few seconds, the two Ems arrive at the graveyard. Aunty Em parks in the parking lot in front of the cemetery and unlocks the car doors. Emily immediately jumps out with Aunty Em right behind her. Aunty Em silently locks the car and follows Emily deep into the graveyard. Goosebumps arose on Emily's arms as she scanned the empty graveyard, which felt extremely creepy.
The cemetery was filled with gravestones with a lot of names everyone forgot about. Every name on the stones unknown. Some looked shiny and new, while others were old and moldy. Almost all of them had flowers, but most of them had dead flowers. Only about 5 gravestones had fresh flowers.
Emily sat in the rain in the middle of the cemetery and got in a weird trance. She sat right at the edge of the pavilion, getting all soaked and cold. She fiddled with the sleeves of her thin jacket while looking at the gates of the cemetery.
"My mind rewinds back to all the fun times Rose and I had when we were little. Us laughing as mom chased us on the sidewalk. Rose drawing a funny face on my forehead when I was sleeping. Ahh. The good times. My mind comes back to reality, and I feel some drops of water on my clothes."
Gradually, Emily started shivering. Aunty Em ran up to her and wrapped a towel around her and said "Little Em, would you like to go back? It's raining." Emily doesn't answer and instead lays on the gravestone nearest to her and (EWWWWW. What were you thinking Emily?) and fell asleep on the moldy gravestone.
I woke up to the bustling group of nurses and doctors. They all had a smile on their face. I was about to ask what in the world was so good that it brought the big, wide smiles they all had on their faces.
My question was answered when the lead doctor said, "Rose, we have good news! You are now fully healed!!!"
My head was suddenly filled with overjoyed thoughts, and it seemed like the world was once again happy.
"Did anything happen when I was, uhh, asleep?" I inquired.
"Not really, but both you and Emily somehow caught a cold at the same time. Which was interesting, but otherwise, no. By the way, CONGRATS!!!!!"
I rushed up to get out of bed and I ran outside of the room, running into dad's arms. I sank into his warm embrace and wanted to stay there forever.
"I'm so happy you're out of that room, kiddo."
"Me too dad, me too."
"Now, are you ready to go back home?"
I opened my mouth to say yes, but suddenly, I saw Patricia in the waiting room outside. Patricia looked up and locked eyes with me with an evil grin. All of a sudden, I doubled over and had the strange urge to go under the chairs.
"What's wrong Rose?" my dad asked when he saw that I had a panicked look on my face.
"Er, nothing! I think it's just a little trauma." I lied, trying to take away any suspiciousness that Patricia was using the magic that's SUPPOSED to be me and Emily's!!
"OK..." my dad answered with a worried look. Wait, what if my dad decides to send me elsewhere because of the "trauma"? Oh no, that would be MY fault that our mission to get the necklaces would be delayed, and I. Hate. Guilt.
