A/N - I'm still new at writing fight scenes, so please, forgive me if it's boring/doesn't add nothing to the story in these first few chapters.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I walked towards Eliseus, facing him, and both of us shared an hesitant gaze towards one another. Dad and Mom were silently watching, until four walls contained me, Eliseus and father, leaving the rest outside of the walls.
The walls were of the same strange liquid, however, this time it was a green one, and it wasn't flat or inconsistent like the other two times I saw this same liquid, it was... pulsing. Like it was some kind of heart of a being.
"This is an arena made out of one of the five dogmas, this one is called Vigor. Don't worry, every attack you make here will be instantly recovered by the walls. If, however, any of you manage to make a serious injury on the other, I'll intervene. This is just a training session, don't try to kill your brother." Dad said, and he took a deep sigh. "Begin."We both stood gazing at each other, waiting for someone to start. I tried sensing the mana arround me, and I could, indeed, sense it. So all I need to do is use it, but how? By the look on Eliseus face, he was at the same question as I.
However, the words of my father echoed through my mind. Air isn't free, but it can be decieved as free. So I lift my right hand tried to talk with the mana in my hands - the sameliquid that engulfed me - and it awnsered. Now that I'm really making contact with this liquid, It's hard to not see the behavior of it. It wanders like an gas, but its form is an liquid, and confined to an shape - that is my silhouette -. It's like another limb, it's hard to explain, like, how would you explain what it feels to have a tail to a human?
Eliseus was too focused on his own things, so I took this opportunity. I don't think that I'm on the wrong, but dragons need to be strong, right? So I need to treat everything like a life or death situation. The mana on my body concentrated on my claws, and a green light emitted from it.
'You don't like being stuck, right? So go at the fastest speed you can and... hurt him' I said to the mana, hesitantly. I... I'm sorry Eliseus, this is going to hurt, I think. And so, I slashed the air, and the green light from my claws dispersed and formed and air attack, going directly towards Eliseus.
The air stopped abruptly, and dispersed itself. "I. Not. Weak. Brother." Eliseus said, and gave me a creepy smile. "Afraid. Be. Not." He launched a ball of air towards me with his tail, which I almost couldn't dodge, since it was too fast. Now I don't feel bad if I hurt him, after all, he agrees with this battle of ours.
The mana condensed in my claws again, but this time, I waited, and waited. Eliseus attacks were fast, but not so strong. He managed to land a few hits on me with air slashes and air balls, and only some of them broke a scale or two.
There was a point that the mana in my claws started to hurt, and I noticed that if I kept getting more and more, I could hurt myself in the process. So, I let one of Eliseus air slashes hit me with everything, raising a cloud of dust. The only thing that could be heard was an dripping sound, and as I regained my sight of him, I let every piece of mana inside my claws out, and a green breeze landed on his chest, which made him let out a cry of pain, and more dripping sounds.
I started walking towards him, and he was standing still. However, the fight had ended. He was exhausted, and so was I. Although I made the last hit, I was the one that couldn't stand in the end. As I was about to fall, Eliseus caught me, and the green walls returned back to the ground. Dad was with a enormous smile, while mom was indiferent.
"Now now, you two need to rest. Do you want to watch the others fight too?" Dad asked Eliseus, who was still holding me, and he nodded, and so did I. I stood up with some difficulty, but managed to do it.
That was fun, I need to say. I thought I wouldn't have this nature of wanting to fight, but it is a pleasant feeling, even when you're losing. Well, I think when it's an friendly fight that is, I wouldn't be happy if I lost a war and my family died.
I sat down next to Mom, and Eliseus did the same. The next two was Shiva and Ganymedes, and their fight went extremely well. Even though it was the oldest of us all against the youngest, the fight was pretty fair.
Their fires wasn't coming from outside, like the air Eliseus and I used, rather, it was coming from inside them, like those cliche fire-breathing dragons. The fire was alive, and I could see the difference in power between Shiva and I. His attacks weren't like Eliseus, neither like mine. I couldn't say with precision why, but I just felt it. I didn't try to use fire though, so this may just be a gut feeling.
In the end, Shiva managed to make an fire circle that engulfed the flames from Ganymedes, forcing her to surrender. At this time, Father was smiling more than he was in my fight. Like he discovered something super fun. "Artemis and Dyonisus, your turn." He said.
The next battle was fast, more than expected to be honest. Dyonisus was already preparing on how to use the mana, while Artemis was just observing the fights. As soon as they entered the arena, water balls appeared right by Artemis side, and it launched towards Dyonisus, who manipulated the mana thrown at him against his sister.
I stopped paying attention to the fight when I noticed something. When I was fightning against Eliseus, he stopped my attacks by manipulating my mana and dispersing it, and so did I. Shiva and Ganymedes stopped eachother attacks by making a stronger one to counter eachother, while Artemis and Dyonisus were just... using eachother attacks.
As I was distracted, I could just hear the crying roar from Artemis, and heavy breathing. When I noticed what was going on, it was already too late for me to see anything. Artemis had lost, while Dyonisus had won, however, he was pretty... hurt, to say the least. The green walls pulsated and their wounds recovered. This was something I didn't noticed in the last two fights, since I was too focused on the mana.
Dad picked the two of them and put them besides mom. After that, he picked me, in specific, and walked towards a flat area. "I'm going to lecture everyone in these two weeks we have, we might take more time, or take less, but I'll not stop until everyone here have full control over mana." He said, and put me down on the floor. "I'll take care of Dante first, Celestine. I think we'll be done here tomorrow." He continued, and sat down on the floor, he gazed at the rest of our family, and waited for them to leave.
When they left, it was almost afternoon, and I was the only one next to him. He took a deep breath again. "Dante, you're too stuck on what will happen next, but you don't focus on what's already happening. " He said, out of nowhere.
"What?" I asked, confused.
"Your mana. You can't concentrate higher than that point for now, but you don't need to go everytime to the limit. Sometimes, the way you attack is more efficient than an strong attack." He said, and pointed at two giant rocks. "Look, I'll use an strong air attack on the left rock." And the green light appeared on his claws, and jumped towards the stone, slashing it in the middle, but breaking the rest. "If that was one of our preys for food, there wouldn't be a meaning to fully destroy it, if I just slashed in the middle," He slashed the other rock on the middle, and let the two separate parts intact, "We could eat it the same way. You can't waste energy in strong attacks that won't work 100%. Eliseus is strong physically, and although you did a pretty good job at condensing mana, he still hang on it. You could weaken his legs, and then used this attack. Do you understand?"
I nodded, and he stood up. "Well then, your training will end when you manage to make me fall." He said. I took a deep breath and sat down, and I'm questioning if my dad is sane or not. How much does an adult dragon weigth? I- Okay, he was a baby once as well, so he must know what he is doing...
I can't be fast on my decisions, I need to think... I can't just throw balls of air or create a tornado, he's as tall as a mountain, I need to make him weaker, and THEN, I can use my normal attacks to make him go down.
Or I could let his guard down. Distracting him somehow, and when he least expects it, I attack two of his legs and he falls. But how will I distract him? I can't just throw a rock and expect he believes in it, right?
So I threw a rock. And it hit him, and fell to the ground. I just gazed at him with the most 'You know I want to laugh but I'll keep this face just so you laugh first' I ever did. "Is that it?" My dad said, however, I could sense his voice a little weaker, like he was really trying to stay serious.
Like, what could possibily go next? Another roc- I threw another stone at him, yes. The same scenario repeated for some hours, and I was almost throwing another rock, when he sighed. "Dante, I can give you a hint okay? This may have been hard en-" I took this time he was talking and lauched the stone on his mouth, which distracted him long enough. The stone wasn't the size of one that would be unconfortable on his mouth, but it's like those things you can feel, and it doesn't hurts, but you dislike it feeling it. He was taking his sweet time to remove it, and so, the snake- I mean, the dragon attacked. The dragon, of course, being me.
I launched some wind currents to his eyes, which wasn't expected of him, of course, and he took a few steps back. And before he could put his last paw on the floor, I made a wind current go upwards, just below his paw. And that was strong enough to make him lose balance - or sense of space - and made him step wrongly, which led to an loud thud and a bunch of dust clouds being raised.
"That, I must say, was a clever move." Dad said, standing up. "If I can guess, your dogma would be knowledge, just like mine." He said again, and picked me up. "Now you need to eat. I'll hunt for you this time, you're probably exhausted, after all, you're still one day old."
He put me on his back and started flying, this time, slowly. I could enjoy the feeling of the air hitting my face, without being too aggressive. Maybe someday I'll learn how to fly using mana or something.
"You know, when my dad made this training with me, I needed to make a dirty move for him to fall down." He said. "I poked my eyeball with my claw and said that it was on accident, and when he was healing, I said that he nedded to lay down because the pain was too much. That old man believed it, and when he laid down, I climbed him up and said that I made him fall." He said laughing. "But I still passed out because I almost became blind from one eye."
"Dad. Eye. Okay. Now?" I asked, even though I already knew the awnser. But I mean, I'm one day old, I can't just act like this is some casual thing, yknow?
"Yes, it is now." He said. "Now, let's see what you will eat today..." dad continued, while gazing at a forest below us.
"Dad." I called, and he awnsered with an 'hm?'. "Why. Fly. Fast. Before. And. Now. Slow?"
"Ah, that." He said, and I tilted my head. "I was excited for seeing you and your siblings in action. It's not everyday a dragon is born, you know?" He said, mostly talking to himself. "Oh, I know what you're going to eat~" He said and dived to the forest below. He was faster now, but I wasn't affected by the speed, it was like he made some protective barrier arround me.
When he got up on the sky again, I could see him with his fangs stuck on the neck of a wolf, but this wolf had goat horns, and four eyes. Dad went flying towards the place we were before, and dropped the - now dead - wolf in the ground, still bleeding a little.
"This, Dante, is the best meat I ever ate in my whole life." He said, proudly. "The common name of this animal is an Stalker. But I like to call it a Wolf of the Mountains." As he was speaking, he was cutting the hide of the wolf. "They taste amazing when cooked, but if you want to hunt one by yourself in the future, be aware that they are extremely dangerous for younglings." He cut off a piece of meat and roasted it with his fire breath. "I'll not enter in detail right now, since all the memories that you'll most likely remember are after the test, but they like to be in the shadows." He said, and I took a bite of the piece of the meat.
The taste was sweet, and slightly gamy, although at the end of it, it started to taste like pork. The blood made an great company to the meat, and helped me digest what it was hard. It wasn't the best I've ever eaten, but I think it's because the blood doesn't get me crazy now.
"Dad." I said, after finishing my part of the food. "What. Test. You and Mom. Talk. About?" I asked.
"I suppose I can say you what it is." He said, while gazing at his tail. "It's... complicated. There are five dogmas, Mana being the most basic of them. On this test, you'll be transported by the dogma of mana itself and you'll know what dogma chose you. If none of the other five chose you, the Mana dogma will chose you. However. If you're not good at controling mana, you'll die in the transportation process."
"Why. Don't. Wait. More. Two. Weeks?" I asked.
"That's the point, we can't. The dogmas aren't our pets, they do have an will. If we do not win at their game, they will try to take advantage of our minds. When they consume a living being, they truly become a monster."
I was about to say something, but he stopped me. "This is just a summary of the whole thing, when you pass your test, you'll be able to understand better." He then started chewing on the Stalker's corpse.
I just laid down right beside him, waiting for something to happen, but the only thing that did happen was the heat on his scales transfering to mine. I wouldn't say it is a surprise, but the fire dragons are indeed hot on the inside, I guess they can't be called cold blooded reptiles then.
Wait... are dragons cold blooded? I mean, why does this matter? No, of course this matter, or does it? Ah, forget it, some other time I'll know. I stood up and walked towards a puddle of watter near my dad's tail, and I took a brief look at myself.
Oh, I have heterochromia, nice. My left eye is purple, while the other one is yellow, and my horse-like hair I touched yesterday is green. I must say, I like this new body of mine. But that's everything that I didn't see, the rest is old news.
I laid down again next to my father, and I just closed my eyes for a while. It has been just two days, and I'm already liking being a dragon. I mean, when you remember your boring past life, it truly is a hundred percent better.
The cold breeze of the night made me feel more relaxed, and the heat from my dad made the rocks feel confortable. Although I'm laying in rock hard floor, it still fells like a bed to me. I may have been born yesterday, but life isn't as bad as I thought it would be.
I can't say I like it yet, after all... I still didn't found the bad part of life. Everything has it negative side. Death is the opposite of life, so I guess - one day - I'll need to stare death in the eyes. Well, not that I already did. I mean, I was supposed to be dead.
What am I even saying...
This ground is so comfy tho...

Hey, thx for reading this chapter! I was sick today and so, it was harder to work on this. But I'm okay now, at least for a while. I hope you like today's chapter, and forgive me for my bad fighting scenes, I never did them on my old stories, and this is the first time I really make a fight scene early on.
My friend helped me solving the problem that Dante faced today, which is the part where he needs to make his dad fall. I was confused on how I would do it, but he gave me an idea, and another friend of mine gave the ''throw a stone at him'' idea and I just combined the two lmao.
