Sigyn sighed as she waited in line at the cafeteria. It was almost the end of dinner, and only the last ones were left in line, but Loki had not made an appearance in the vicinity of the dining room. Sigyn knew that if she let him go the boy would not have dinner (again), and that was something she refused to allow. Especially after that argument in his room, and even more so after what had happened earlier. No, she definitely wasn't going to allow Loki to wallow in his own sea of self-pity. She wasn't going to let him beat himself up for reacting exactly like the teenager he was and not the perfectly rational creature he seemed to believe he should behave.
She knew that Odin Borson's children had been raised to meet expectations that weren't expected of a normal child (she herself had been raised to do so, and her family had far less power), but Thor didn't seem so corseted by it as Loki. Sometimes, when she talked to him, she had the feeling that the boy in front of her had lived many more things than someone his age could or should have lived. It was ridiculous, of course, but the thought kept coming back to her mind as she watched him stare off into the distance, a deep, ancient pain in his eyes.
Sigyn dismissed the idea and focused on filling their plates. She served more than Loki could eat, and she did it on purpose. If she managed to get him to eat half of what she brought him, Loki would eat almost a normal portion... for someone shorter, that is. It wasn't ideal, but for now she would settle. As long as she didn't see him as thin as the first days, half was a more than enough portion.
With the tray already loaded, she left the cafeteria and headed for the elevator. She went up without any interruption, but when she got out of the elevator she barely managed to take a couple of steps before a voice stopped her. A voice too loud for a hallway like this, one that echoed off the walls. Sigyn managed to compose her usual smile and turned to him.
"Hi, Thor. How are you? I haven't seen you for a while."
Thor smiled even more widely.
"I'm fine, thank you very much! I've been busy learning things about hockey. It is the best sport in the world!" he affirmed with enthusiasm, too much if someone asked Sigyn's eardrums.
"I'm sure yes," she agreed. "And I suppose you've been spending time with Jane, too," she added in a mischievous tone.
Thor didn't blush, but judging by the way his smile twisted, he was a little embarrassed.
"Yes, when the team lets me. She... She is really special," he said, in a normal tone of voice, which for Thor was practically a whisper. "Speaking of spending time with people, I've seen that you've been with Loki for a long time."
Sigyn suppressed a laugh. And there was the subtlety of Thor.
"Yes. What do you need, Thor?"
The boy crossed his arms and shifted his weight from one leg to the other. Uncomfortable, Sigyn realized. Something rare in Thor, who did not usually stop to think about something long enough to doubt it. Sigyn frowned a little, suddenly worried. Why was Thor nervous? She just hoped it wasn't because he wanted her to stop seeing Loki.
"I've been talking to Jane. About Loki. And she told me that it would be better to talk to you."
"Of course. What do you want to talk about?"
Thor looked down at the tray for a second before looking up at her face again.
"Wouldn't you prefer to talk in a more comfortable place?"
Sigyn hesitated for a second. She actually wanted to tell him that they could talk another time, and bring Loki dinner. See how he was after rehearsal, if he even went. Ask him if he had seen Sylvie. If Sylvie was okay.
