Nat's POV
We arrive back at the compound, I pick Y/n up and carry her into the medbay as quick as I can.
"Bruce, examine and help her. Now."
I lay her onto the medical bed as Bruce walks over to her to examine her injuries.
"How is she? Is she going to be okay." I ask, worry in my voice.
"Some of these injuries are pretty severe. She has some burns and bruises, possibly a broken knee."
"Will she be okay, Bruce?" I ask once more.
He looks over at me "I will do everything I can to make sure that she's okay."
"Let's give him some space so he can help her." Steve gets everyone to leave the room, but I just stand there, looking at Y/n. Please be okay, I need you to be okay.
Yelena walks over to me, putting a hand on my shoulder "Come on Nat...she'll be okay."
I stay silent for a few moments before sighing "Okay.."
I follow Yelena and the others out into the main room, sitting down on a couch. There's a tense silence in the air.
"Why, Tony" I ask, breaking the silence.
"Why what?" Is he really going to play dumb right now? Surely he knows exactly what I'm asking.
"Why'd you send her in that mission?"
He just stares at me, guilt in his face."Why Tony?! You said you had a good reason, so tell us your reason!" I snap, standing up. Everyone is watching both of us, waiting for Tony to answer.
After a few moments, he answers, "I thought she was spending too much time with you.."
This man...is he serious right now?
"What?" I ask in disbelief.
"I was worried she was becoming the kind of person who only spent time with their partner and no one else." He begins reasoning "I wanted to make sure she kept her focus elsewhere."
"Are you serious?" I can feel the anger grow inside me "We're dating! Of course we're going to want to spend time together! But it's not like she actually spends all her time with me. She knows how to balance her love life, social life and work life. She's not a kid!"
I cannot believe this man, is he so focused mine and hers relationship that he's oblivious to the rest of her relationships?
"She spends time with Yelena and Wanda because they're her best friends! She trains with Pietro, she's learning archery with Clint" I bet he didn't know that she was learning archery or that she's gotten really good at it.
"And on missions you have her full attention! So I don't know where you got the idea that I'm the only person she spends time with." I glare at him.
"Maybe you're the one who needs to shift his focus elsewhere." I sit back down as Tony just stares at the floor.
After a while Bruce enters the room.
"Well, she's going to need a lot of bed rest but..shes going to be okay."
I look over to him "Is she awake?"
"Not yet, she'll probably be asleep for at least a couple of hours, she looks as if she was awake the entire time she was gone. But you can go be with her now." Without a moments hesitation, I walk into the medbay.
As soon as I'm in there my eyes fall on her, she looks so..peaceful. God, I can't imagine what this past week has been like for her.
I sit down in a chair next to the bed and take her hand in mine.
"Hey Y/n" I can feel tears start to roll down my face "I know you probably can't hear me but..I need you to wake up soon, okay?" I gently squeeze her hand, hoping for her to squeeze mine in return.
"I love you."
~a couple hours later~
I'm still sat in a chair next to Y/n's bed, holding onto her hand, watching her breathe slowly. There's a comfort in watching her just breathe, I know she's still alive that way.
Soon I hear the door open as Steve walks in.
"How's she doing?" He asks.
"Still asleep but alive and safe, that's all that really matters." I look over to him for a brief moment before letting my eyes fall back onto Y/n.
"Listen, Nat, I'm sorry" he begins as he takes a seat next to me "I promised to you that I'd bring her back safe and I didn't."
"No Steve, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have yelled at you or blamed you" I admitted. "It was out of your control. It could've happened to anyone."
I pause for a moment.
"I was just scared, when you walked through the door and she wasn't with you..." I can feel myself start to cry again.
"I was so scared, Steve."
"Honestly, so was I. I keep thinking about how I could've stopped this from happening." Steve looks over at Y/n, guilt on his face.
"It wasn't your fault Steve, like I said, this could've happened to anyone." I look over at him "So don't beat yourself up over" I then look back over to Y/n.
"I'll try"
We sit in silence for a couple minutes when the silence is disturbed by the groan of Y/n.
"Ugh, where am I? Why is it so bright?"
"Y/n?" I rush up from my seat, getting closer to her, gripping onto her hand as tears begin to roll down my face.
"Hey Nat..."
