It's Not That Complicated, Right?

Hey cheesicles! Here is Donnie's coming out story! I hope all of you enjoy!

Flashback: Donnie is 10-years-old 

"What's wrong with me?" Donnie murmured as she looked at her body. Not that there was much to see since she was a turtle. In fact, no one would know that anything was different about Donnie unless they  looked at her...well, you get the idea. 

Donnie was intersex, biologically. Somehow, she ended up with both male and female internal and external reproductive organs. It may have happened during her muattion, or it may have already been there before.

Splinter knew this, he was the first to find out. He realized that Donnie was intersex shortly after the baby turtles muated, during bath time and diaper changes. He was confused at first, but accepted it.

 However, being no medical professional himself, and being unable to access one, Splinter had no idea why Donnie's body was different than the other turtles. Why she had both reproductive parts and the other turtles only had one.

But, seeing as Donnie was normal other than that, Splinter treated her just like her brothers. She was normal, as far as her brothers could tell. They didn't notice she was different. They adored her for herself.

Since Donnie had both male and female parts, Splinter was at first unsure of whether to refer to her as a boy or a girl, and soon decided to refer to Donnie as female. He didn't want to refer to her as they, in case that got too confusing.

When she grew up, she would have questions, and Splinter would try to explain it to her as best as she could. And if she chose to live as either a girl, or a boy, or neither, he was okay with that. 

Now, Donnie was 10 years old, and she had always known she was different, because she had more down there than her brothers did. When she said this to Splinter, he told her: "Everyone is different, my child, and you are very special. You were born with something unique, and that is alright." 

But, as Donnie grew older, she realized that she didn't feel like a girl. Even though she had girl parts. She despised anything girly and tended to play with sciency things like books, blocks, science kits, and other things.

Donnie felt more like a boy than a girl. Biologically, he was both, male and famale. So...he could live as a boy if he wanted to, right? Splinter hadn't told her this yet. He has been waiting until she came to him.

But she was very smart, and read a lot of books, as well as research. Donnie accessed a computer and immediately looked up what it meant to have both male and female parts. Splinter had explained it to her, but there was more she wanted to know.

Donnie found out that intersex people could be born that way like she was, or could develop hormonally later in life. Some girls became hormonally intersex after developing Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome. It adds male hormones to a woman's body.
