The two women crept along the backroads of Piltover, keeping their hoods up and heads down. Vi's feet were almost numb from the river's cold. She didn't tell Caitlyn but water was in the boat towards her end and her feet has been drenched. However, she pressed on, afraid of being caught. Finally, the pair snaked their way up to the Kiramann Manor. Caitlyn practically sprinted up to the door and pounded on it. Slowly, the door opened, the tip of a rifle sticking out into view.
"Who's there?"
"It's me Dad, and Vi."
The door flung open and a much more drained Mr. Kiramann embraced his daughter.
"Thank god you're alive Cait. With your mother found dead I thought you had..."
Caitlyn lowered her head.
"I'm alive, I promise... and... both Vi and I need you to meet someone..."
Vi shakingly approached the open door and opened her arms to reveal Amythest, who had stayed surprisingly quiet. Mr. Kiramann looked taken aback. Caitlyn spoke up, hoping the explanation would calm his shock.
"Her name is Amythest. After the bombing we found her orphaned in the wreckage... and... Vi and I are..."
Mr. Kiramann relaxed.
"It's okay. Both your mother and I knew when you brought Vi through the window, she was likely either already dating you or would be soon. I take it you adopted this girl?"
Caitlyn nodded and stepped back to be with Vi, who was trembling uncontrollably from her freezing feet. Her father stepped aside to let the shivering women inside.
"Then they are both family now, and this is now their home."
Caitlyn felt relief wash over her and she wrapped her arm around Vi to guide her inside. Vi felt her stomach turn nervously. A family and a home... the warmth it gave her was unfamiliar, and she hadn't felt it since she had Powder and Vander as a child.
Inside Caitlyn's bedroom not much had changed. Caitlyn gently took Amythest into her arms and sat on the end of the bed giving the infant a bottle. Vi stretched out her now numb legs across the bed and cautiously removed her shoes. Her feet up to the ankles had turned a greyish blue, and looked almost zombie like, and Vi couldn't feel her legs below the kneecaps. Caitlyn immediately grew concerned, recognizing the early frostbite.
"Vi, my god, why didn't you say something?"
Caitlyn had found her old crib and settled Amythest down for a nap before tenderly caring to the freeze that covered Vi's legs.
"I just... didn't want to risk stopping and getting caught..."
Caitlyn sighed and took Vi's hand gently, looking deeply into her eyes.
"Violet please listen, I know that you were taught as a kid to be tough and run through the pain... but this could've lost you your legs or worse! Vi... I love you... so much... but as your lover it's my job to keep you safe... if you love me don't put yourself at risk like that..."
Vi's hand went from Caitlyn's fingers up to the side of her face.
"I love you too, Cupcake... and... I'll try to be a bit more sensitive..."
Caitlyn blushed and crawled over to cuddle up to Vi.
"Vi I can't lose you and neither can Amy..."
"You won't. I won't let you lose me and that's a promise."
The two women cradled each other before falling asleep in the cuddle, Vi's spare hand draped down into the bedside crib mere inches from the forehead of her precious daughter.
I'm home here, Vi thought as her mind drifted to sleep after the hard voyage of the day.
Meanwhile, Jinx was hopping rooftops and searching for her sister. She had spent the last 2 months attempting to track down Vi but with her and Caitlyn being smart enough to take sanctuary with the Firelights, Jinx had been running in circles, growing increasingly unstable. The pink eyed shell of Powder only had one thought running through her mind.
"Kill Vi, Kill Caitlyn, and Kill the baby."
