4 months went by, and so much had happened. Caitlyn had a knocking on her door one morning, and when she answered it was a battle-scarred Jayce. He and Mel were the sole survivors of the bomb and thus held control of Piltover. With the Sheriff dead Jayce came to Caitlyn and pleaded with her to come back to the force and take his place. Caitlyn agreed happily and settled into her job quickly.

Vi, on the other hand, stayed with Amythest when Caitlyn wasn't home. For the most part Vi remained a stay at home, but a few nights a week would sneak down to the undercity to get intel for Cait. Amythest had seemingly grown accustomed to her new home and loving mothers, and now that they were in a rich place, she looked healthier and healthier by the day. It was hard for her parents to believe she'd already reached 6 months old.

Rumors of Jinx said she had taken Silco's place, and mainly had Sevika doing her paperwork and such as the mental young woman took to the streets, continuing the manhunt for her once loving big sister. Every night the distant explosions of Jinx's monkey bombs echoed over the bridge and into Piltover, leaving a knot of fear in Vi's stomach.

It was a calm evening. Caitlyn, who was still wearing her sheriff's uniform, sat legs crossed on the ground, encouraging Amythest to crawl. She'd been starting to crawl for a couple of days but had trouble getting far. Caitlyn had been gentle and patient, coaxing her daughter with a soothing voice to keep trying. She'd never imagined being such a loving mother, yet here she sat, with heart eyes for a little baby that came out of the blue, or, considering Amy's hair, the purple!

"Hey, Cupcake, do I get to teach her how to ride a bike then?"

The sarcastic Vi climbed through the bedroom window, a new scrape on her forehead despite the positive attitude. Caitlyn sighed and grinned.

"You know we do have a front door."

"Aw but Cait, where's the fun in that?"

Vi smirked and sat down beside Caitlyn. Amythest looked up at Vi with a sweet, innocent smile and immediately began trying to climb towards her. Vi held out her hands and encouraged her excitedly. Caitlyn turned to look at Vi, her expression getting more serious.

"So, what did you find?"

"A couple kids said they saw her outside the Last Drop taking a smoke break the other day, other than that Pow- Jinx has been eerily silent."

Vi's gaze shifted from Amy, who had made it into her arms and was now playing with the buckles on her coat, over across the room to the Hextech gauntlets. Caitlyn put a hand on her girlfriend's leg.

"I know what you're thinking and no, I won't let you go picking a fight with Powder. Vi, we still don't know all of what that shimmer makes her capable of, she could kill you, and... I can't cope with another death. We're finally at a quiet part of this, a valley of peace surrounded by the dark mountains of war and pain. Please..."

Vi laid down on her back and lifted Amy into the air, making the infant giggle and wave her arms.

"I made a promise you wouldn't lose me, and I'll hold myself to that. Besides, you both mean way too much for me to pull the same reckless shit I did as a teen."

Caitlyn was relaxed by Vi's newfound maturity and was able to put her mind at ease. For the afternoon the women played with their daughter, laughing and rolling on the bedroom floor. However, in the moment neither of them realized that a pair of pink eyes glowed with anger from the cracked opening of the closet door...
