Maki Harukawa: Part 2

Your first date

• Earlier in the day, before you left your Ultimate Lab, Maki asked you how she should dress for the date tonight. You told her that dressing comfortably would be the best choice, since the date would involve a lot of movement. You also advised against wearing anything that she didn't want to get dirty, since it was likely that paint would be involved.

• You arrived early at the indoor paintball field, so you could make sure everything was scheduled and paid for. It was a hybrid paintball field/arcade, which seemed like a weird combination. However, it seemed like it'd provide you and Maki with a way to relax after playing paintball.

• You sent Maki directions to the place before you got there, and you didn't have to wait long before she arrived. When she walked into the building, you knew that she would terrify whoever she was playing paintball against. Maki was dressed in black pants, a dark red long-sleeved shirt, and black combat boots. It seemed like it might restrict her movement, but you knew better than to think that. She was covering as much skin as possible to lessen the impact of any paintballs that hit her.

• That wasn't what was intimidating though. In that outfit, you could clearly see all of Maki's muscles. Just by looking at her, anyone would be able to tell that she would be a beast in any physical activity. She gave off an aura of strength. Rather than having her hair in two long pigtails, Maki chose to put her hair in a single braid so it would stay out of the way.

• As she walked towards you, you knew that you probably looked like an idiot while staring at her. Your suspicion was confirmed when she said, "You look like an idiot that just got a concussion. Are you okay?" You shook yourself out of your daze and said that you were perfectly fine.

• Maki chuckled before saying, "It's the outfit, isn't it? Paintball's a game that can be won on two different levels: Physical, by beating the other team, and psychological, by getting in their heads before the game even starts." Maki's statement was completely true. You could already see the other people getting nervous just by being around her.

• Since you got there early to set everything up, it didn't take long before the two of you were able to play. You put on your gear, made sure the masks fit right, and received rental paintball guns. There was a total of 12 people that were divided into two teams of 6. You were thankful that you were on Maki's team, especially because of how scary she looked while wearing a mask. The referee sat everyone down and explained the rules. It was pretty simple: If you get hit, you're out. Aside from using the paintball guns as intended, don't do anything to purposefully harm anyone. Don't try to eliminate someone who's already out. Above all, don't remove your mask for any reason.

• With that out of the way, it was time to start playing. When the game started, the four other people on your team went down really quickly. Two of them didn't know how to hide behind cover well, one of them tried taking on the entire other team by himself, and the last one accidentally eliminated themself.

• It was 6 against 2, but you and Maki made an amazing team. Since Maki was an expert at staying hidden, you came up with a strategy on the fly. You'd call out a specific location on the field where you knew there wasn't another player. Then, you'd fire a volley of paintballs in that vicinity. You wanted to make it seem like you were wrong about where the other players were. You knew that there wasn't anyone where you fired though, it was an attempt to bait the others out.

• When they saw the direction your paintballs came from, the other players started trying to move into a position where they could eliminate you. That's when Maki would come into play. Since she was completely hidden, she could hit the moving targets without them having any idea of where she was firing from. While your opponents moved toward you, Maki took them out before they even got close to where you were.
