Three months passed by and I was finally released from the psych ward. Saying goodbye to Estelle was one of the hardest things I had to do. But after leaving the ward, OB/N picked me up and drove me to a condo. Since he owned the condo, he let me stay in one of the rooms and I was basically free to do whatever I wanted. I was still doing online college courses and on top of that, I was exploring the world I missed out on for two years. I finally got to play the video games that were released when I was in the psych ward and I got to see how my old classmates were doing.
I finally got to go back to the old bookstore, Evan and I would go to every day after school. The cafe across from the bookstore was still there and it was more popular than ever. I had coffee from there every once in a while so that was pretty nice. I could actually start cooking my own meals as well which was nice since I liked cooking a lot. But my mind always wandered back to Evan and how he was doing. I know he's probably done with his surgery now. I'm not sure if he's still recovering from that or not.
Anyways, I found the old record store that Evan and I used to go to over the weekends back when we were high schoolers. For old times' sake, I decided to go back there to maybe get something or just look around. Once I arrived at the record shop, I could see that there were new records on the stands. But I immediately walked over to the Arctic Monkeys section. I flipped through the records to find the album that Evan first introduced to me.
"Y/n?" I looked up to see who called my name and I couldn't believe it was actually him.
"Evan," I breathed out. His hair was still blonde and curly but neater than the last time I saw him. His eyebags were still there but he's been getting sleep. He's got his signature dimple smile on his face.
"I wouldn't think I would meet you at our record store," he said, pulling out the AM album. "Hm? The first album that I introduced to you. Were you thinking about me?"
"Of course, the last time I saw you, you were getting pulled away to get surgery. I was worried about you for the past few months," I said.
"No need to worry anymore. I'm here now. I'm here and well," he said.
"I'm glad to hear it," I said.
"You wanna get coffee after I get you this record?" he asked holding up the record.
"What? Shouldn't I get it? I wanted it in the first place," I said.
"It's called treating others. It's something I like doing to one person only and that person is very lucky to be spoiled by me," he said walking to the cashier to pay for it. He paid for the record and handed it to me in a bag. We walked over to the cafe shop we always went to and sat in the corner.
"So, how was your surgery?" I asked.
"It went well since I'm getting all my memories back. I actually recognize my parents now and I can now speak full-on sentences," he replied.
"That's great! The last time I saw you, you weren't able to form words easily," I said.
"Yeah, but since that time is over, what happened when I was gone?" he asked.
"Well...um, I got admitted to a psych ward so I don't really know what happened in the outside world," I said.
"How did you get in the psych ward? I know it had to do something with cutting yourself," he asked.
"You remember that?"
"Of course, that time I spent with you at the psych ward was pretty special to me because I didn't really understand what was going on and the only person I could recognize and remember was you," he said.
"Oh wow, I didn't you felt like that when you were there, but anyways to answer your question. After you were in that coma, everything in my life started to go downhill. My grades were going down and I was a lot quieter which made my parents angry. They started to abuse me and started pressuring me to do more and work more. So then I started to cut myself because I wanted to focus on that than what my parents were saying to me. My parents found out and sent me to a psych ward because they thought anyone and anything could be fixed. I ended up in the psych ward for two years but they finally released me so now I'm here," I explained.
"I can't believe that happened. That's why I wasn't able to contact you after the surgery," said Evan.
"Yeah, I just got a new phone and a new job so I'm able to live well. I'm also getting a college degree too," I informed.
"Oh wow, I still have to learn high school stuff because I basically haven't graduated yet," he said bashfully.
"I could help tutor you or like help you out. I graduated valedictorian even though I was in that psych ward," I offered.
"Oh, that would be great! I do kinda need help in English and Math," he said.
"Oh, and I can tutor you for free, you know, in payment for the record," I said.
"You don't have to pay me back you know?" he said.
"I know, I just want to," I said.
"You know, we have a high school reunion tonight?" he said out of the blue.
"We do? You're not going to it, are you?" I asked.
"Well, I actually am. I want you to go too, 'cause then I would just be drinking and eating in the corner. I didn't have many friends or actually, you were my only friend," he said.
"Okay, I guess I'll go if you're going," I said.
"Great! I'll pick you up at your place at 6:30 PM," he suggested.
"Alright, that sounds great!"
"I'll see you then," he said. We got up from the table and paid for the food that we ordered. We exchanged numbers and left our separate ways. I went back home and put the record somewhere safe. I checked the time and it was 3:28 PM. I guess I could finish up an essay and commission that I got. I got out my sketch pad and I went to my pc.
~ 3 hours later ~
I was waiting outside of the condo for Evan to pick me up. I was wearing something casual since I didn't think it would be too formal. Suddenly, a car stopped in front of me. The window rolled down and to no surprise it was Evan.
"Get in loser," he said cooly. I rolled my eyes and got in the passenger seat. He started to drive to our school.
"So, no suit?" I said.
"No dress?" he replied sarcastically.
"I didn't think it would be formal," I replied.
"Same here, I don't think people would show in suits. At least I hope people don't show up in suits and fancy dresses," he said. After twenty minutes, we arrived at our old high school.
"This is it," he said. We got out of the car and went into the gym building to see all of our old classmates. The popular girls seem to still be friends with the jocks. But since Evan and I didn't really make any friends in high school we went straight to the food and drinks section.
"Honestly, I didn't think it would be this boring," Evan said while pouring punch into his cup.
"Is that you, Y/n?" I turned around to see a girl that I barely talked to in high school.
"Oh, uh, hi," I awkwardly said back.
"It's been so long! I haven't seen you in two years! I thought you moved away," she said.
"I actually graduated here but through the online program," I explained.
"Oh, so you didn't move away?" she asked.
"No, I didn't move away, I was just admitted into a psych ward so I was kinda confined," I said.
"That's why I couldn't contact you!" she said. She looked over at Evan and smiled at him.
"You must be Evan! I haven't seen you ever since you were in that accident a while back."
"I-uhh, yeah," Evan uneasily responded.
"How are you doing now?" she asked him.
"Better."
"Oh look who it is. Evan Peters." I turned around to see one of the popular girls who sexually harassed him back then. Evan started to act a bit more nervous and he definitely looked more uncomfortable.
"You never called back," she said with a pout.
"I was in a coma and I told you I'm not interested," he firmly said.
"Oh come on. Who wouldn't want me? I was the most popular girl in school and did I mention that I won prom queen for three years in a row? That basically means that I was the prettiest too," she said caressing his shoulder.
"Well, we're not in high school anymore so popularity doesn't mean anything. Plus I don't care that you won prom queen, it doesn't mean anything to me," he said, removing her hand from his shoulder. She groaned in annoyance and crossed her hands across her chest, trying to expose her cleavage.
"Yo, Claire, is this guy bothering you?" asked one of the jocks. He stepped behind Claire and put his hand around her shoulder.
"Shit, Evan you're still alive?" Josh chuckled.
"What's that supposed to mean?" he asked.
"Jeez, how am I gonna break it to you. Well, that accident was no accident at all. We wanted you dead, Evan. We tried to get you to suicide by bullying you but that didn't really work out did it? We then tried the 'accident' technique but that didn't really work out either. You're a real waste of air and space you know that Peters?" he spat out at him. Evan stepped back in shock and the jocks drenched him with the bowl of punch. In shock, Evan ran out of the gym building.
"You're a real asshole you know that, Josh," I shot back at him before running after Evan. I heard sobbing behind a shed and I took a peek to see that it was Evan.
"Evan," I said. He looked up and immediately ran to hug me. He cried into my neck while I slowly stroked his hair.
"I'm sorry Evan," I said.
"We've should've never gone to this party," he sobbed.
"We can go back to my place and we'll just do something there together," I suggested to make him feel better. He nodded his head at the idea and we both went to his car. I drove this time since Evan wasn't in really good condition. We soon arrived at my place and I unlocked the door.
"You should probably take a bath," I suggested. He nodded his head and he left to the bathroom to take a shower. I looked through my wardrobe and picked out clothes that my brother left to give to Evan. I neatly folded it and placed it on my bed. I went to my kitchen to make some tea to warm us up. I also put the Arctic Monkey record on the record player.
"Uhm, do you have any clothes for me, or do I just hang around with this towel?" asked Evan. I turned around to see Evan with a towel around his waist. His hair was still dripping with water and he was very well-built.
"U-uhm, there's a pair of clothes on my bed that you could use," I said while blushing.
"Thanks," he thanked me while walking to my bedroom to put on some clothes. The water finally heated up and I poured some tea into two cups. I put the cups of tea on the table. I opened the fireplace and lit it up so we could warm up from the autumn weather outside. I sat on the couch, scrolling through my phone while waiting for him. He came back and sat on the empty seat next to me.
"Is that tea for me?" he asked. I nodded my head and he grabbed the hot steamy cup of tea and blew on it. After a bit of silence, Evan decided to break it.
"Y/n, there's something I need to tell you," he said, turning to face me.
"Yeah?" I responded.
"Remember that time when you made me cook and I said that I'll only do it if you did something for me?" he asked.
"Oh yeah, I remember that. I mean, we had a fun time cooking together right?"
"Yeah it was pretty fun, but that day...before I was in that coma, I was planning to tell you what I wanted you to do," he said.
"Well, what was it that you wanted me to do?" I asked.
"I...I wanted to ask you out on a date. I was hoping to ask you to be my girlfriend but Josh found out about it. He liked you at the time so that's when his jocks jumped me and when the...stuff happened. But that doesn't really matter now, what matters, is...do you like me back Y/n? I know it's been a while since we've actually got to hang out together but I can't seem to get you off my mind. And, I don't think I like you, I think I'm in love with you. I love you, Y/n," he explained. My eyes widened in shock at all of the news that he just said.
"I-I had no idea you felt this way, Evan. I love you too, even if you were to ask me back then, I would've said yes because I knew we weren't just friends. If you were to ask me to be your girlfriend then and even now, I would still say yes," I responded. He smiled at me and held my hands in his.
"Well, Y/n. Would you like to be my girlfriend?" he asks in a serious tone.
"Of course," I said. We both smiled at each other and slowly leaned forward. Our lips touched and he melted into my embrace. He pulled me closer to him and deepened the kiss. After a bit, we pulled apart and looked at each other with love. He put his head against mine.
"I am so tired," he said, chuckling a bit.
"Yeah, I guess you went through a lot of crazy things today," I said.
"Wanna watch a movie?" he asks.
"Yeah," I replied. I opened a movie on the TV and we lay on the couch, cuddling with each other. Soon, we both fell asleep.
