"Do you think it was right to tell Alvako that Tanya was safe?" Jamana asked for the fourth time that night.

Sarada sighed. "I think so. He must have found out before he tried to save Lavalda, so he must have been relieved."

"But telling him a lie?"

"I know, but the message probably went to Lavalda, so Lavalda must have though that his sister was safe before he died. That is what matters."

The messenger had come that afternoon. He had asked sharply if Sarada was home, and he handed the three messages to him. The first one was from Alvako saying that Ardon refused to sell Lavalda, and that Lavalda missed and loved his mother and sister, and that - sadly but understandably - he hated his father. The second letter was from Alvako also, saying that he had received the letter of Tanya's safety and was going on an all or nothing attempt to steal Lavlalda back. The third letter was from Ardon, saying that Alvako was killed for breaking the law, and in deppression, Lavalda had committed suicide.

They were heartbroken. First their only son had become a slave, then their only daughter had run away, then Alvako broke the law and was killed, and then their son had committed suicide. And on top of all that, there had been various reports of a Voldra that had migrated into the forest -  where the last sighting of Tanya was.

Life was terrible, but they had decided not to lose each other too, they would do thier best to hold on to each other for hope.

That is, if there was any hope left.

Meanwhile, Lavalda was going on a short trip with a hunting group.

While he was gone, Ardon gave a little talk to everyone, saying that they must never mention any of Lavalda's family again, because they were all dead - all but Tanya - and Ardon was beggining to feel sympathy for the lad, and he didn't want any painful memories of his family interupting Lavalda's training.

None of them knew that no one but Alvako was dead.

None of them suspected that it was all a trick.

And Lavalda didn't suspect a trap when he heard about it either.

As you can tell, I LOVE cliffhangers :P
