Chapter 4

Darwin walked up to the purple portal, looking at the obsidian border around it. He thought for a bit, and glanced to the others behind him. "Come, once through, we will nearly be at my castle." he said. Turning back to the portal, he moved forward and disappeared through it.

        "Well... Here we go then. I'll go through first." Impulse said. He sucked in a deep breath, then into the purple swirls he went, disappearing just as the king did.

        Cleo went next, followed by Ren. Scar grabbed Mumbo's hand and lead him through, Etho just behind. And then it was just Pearl and Xisuma.

        The ex-watcher hesitated, still standing just behind Pearl. Not once had he moved from her side. He was.... uncomfortable, on edge? It had been awhile since he last went without his helmet... And there was no going back- everyone was going to find out about his secret... Everyone except Pearl. She already knew- he felt he could trust her when they first met. In fact- it was because of Zeqain that they met, so many years ago...

        Pearl turned around and watched Xisuma for a moment. The poor man looked so tense... even a little scared. "You don't have to go through. You can stay here, or find some place far away- I could help you, even." she said.

        Oh how much he wanted to go far away.... far away from all his troubles, far away from these watchers, far away from the risks of his secrets... He bit his lip, looking to the side slightly. "As much as I would love to.... I need to stop running from everything... I need to face them. It'll never end until I do..." he said.

        "Then go face them... I'll be there with you." Pearl said, putting her hand on his shoulder. "Now come, I'm pretty sure we can convince the Nether king to get someone to properly patch you up." she smiled.

        Xisuma let out a breath and nodded. "Let's go, I'm sure they're all waiting." he said.

        Pearl smiled. "Yes, let's go." Gently she grabbed his hand, and walked with him through the swirling portal.

        Impulse came out on the other side, stumbling and feeling nauseous. He groaned and put a hand to his stomach. "That... felt uncomfortable..." he said. He then gagged slightly. "Oh- I feel sick-" running to the side he fell to his knees as he tossed out his cookies.

        Darwin shook his head slightly and waited as the others began coming through.

        Cleo came through, looking around with wide eyes. "You weren't kidding. It is warm in here. There's lava everywhere..." she said. She glanced to the side and raised an eyebrow. She walked over to Impulse as she set her hands on her hips. "Tossing you're cookies are ya?" she asked.

        Impulse grumbled a little and looked up to her. "How- how aren't you affected? That felt terrible!" he said.

        "I'm dead. What do you expect?" Cleo chuckled. Impulse muttered something and threw up again.

        And then Ren came through, a little dizzy as he put a hand to his head. "Ugh- I'm not going to get used to that, aren't I..."

        "No, you will someday. I mean, I got used to it eventually." he said, coming through with Scar and Mumbo.

        "Well, it's not that bad." Scar said. "Just slight dizziness. Doesn't bother me at all!" he smiled.

        "Scar- pretty much nothing ever bothers you- you're Scar for crying out loud!" Impulse said. Scar laughed.
