Keeping my head down, I was trying to look inconspicuous while quickly walking next to Riven back to the college. If Beatrix was somehow in league with Queen Luna, I needed to get the Hell out of Alfea.
"You can pack quick, right?" Riven muttered before casually glancing around to check our surroundings.
"I only need to grab a few things. I can leave the rest."
"Good. I just need my gear."
"What?"
"What do you mean 'what'? You really think I'm letting you leave the barrier alone? You're not a Specialist." Riven gave me a look.
"You realize I'm going back home, right?"
"Yeah. And I'll make sure you actually get there."
"Okay, but do you not realize how far away that is?"
"I'm not gonna whine about it if that's what you're worried about. I'm a big boy." He scoffed while trying to make the situation seem lighter.
"Riven, this is serious. You have to think about yourself here. I can get home fine, but I can't ask you to go with me."
"Good, 'cause you don't need to ask. And I don't need your permission." He gave me a look.
"Riven-" I grabbed his arm to stop him and try talking sense into him that he couldn't just up and leave everything here to help me get back home. However, it was then that a pair of SUVs drove up and cut off our path.
Soldiers stepped out of the vehicles along with an older woman, and Riven pulled me behind him while reaching into his pocket. He didn't have any of his Specialist gear, but he apparently still had a butterfly knife at the very least. The woman smiled while sliding her hands into her pockets.
"I just came to talk." The woman declared.
"How about you fuck off?" Riven took a step back with his knife raised, keeping himself between me and the stranger when the woman stepped forward.
"I applaud your bravery, boy. However, my business is with your fairy friend there." Her gaze drifted to me as she was still smiling. "So why don't you put the knife down so this can remain civil?" He didn't budge, and I placed a hand on his arm.
"Riven." I looked from him to the soldiers and knew he didn't stand a chance if anything happened. Not only did the soldiers have swords, but they were also equipped with bows. I turned my gaze back to the woman and saw that she was completely relaxed as if she didn't have a single thing to worry about.
"Let me introduce myself properly. I'm Rosalind." Her voice was steady, and she began to walk closer. "Why don't you join me for a walk, Ash? It's a lovely day." She went right past Riven and I as the dead leaves on the ground crunched under her feet. "Just the two of us."
Riven and I looked at each other, and I gave his arm a reassuring squeeze.
"I'll be okay." I said to him softly before going to follow Rosalind. Riven clenched his jaw but let me go.
"Beatrix tells me he's your Specialist partner."
"He is."
"You chose wisely." She then chuckled with amusement. "Such loyalty to still take a stand while knowing the odds."
"Who are you?"
"Oh, you don't know me?" Rosalind looked at me with raised brows. "I was the headmistress before Farah. The one who made Bloom a changeling. One who led troops against the Burned Ones years ago." She replied with a cool tone.
