"For untold centuries humans have wondered if they were truly alone in the universe. For that same reason; for thousands of years we have kept our existence a secret. They may be our ancestors; but we would never want to actually, BE like them." - Oliver Gravlund; Nevick Guardian- During The First Great Expansion.
'Humans' in one way or another in other, have existed in our vast pocket universe for thousands of centuries. The most abundant resource in this universe was and always has always been- humans.
While Our universe is made up of thousands of species and races; all had a human origin. An origin that those who started The Great Expansion has tried to erase.
This 'Limitless' area of space had never known war. Even peer to peer Violence was policed and monitored. Few planets while having space flight; Their jails often; only had one 20x20 cell that remained empty.
While all of this was true; every one knew every race owed its origin to unethical scientific barbarism of their own race. While breeding flushed out the genetic modifications into 'natural occurring abilities.' These would Later be known as Race specific traits.
As they explored- there was no other distant 'alien' race. We were all alone. Cast off creation; In some ways that fact made it worse.
Most races didn't like the designation "genetic modified organisms." They felt a pride for who and the what they had created as a people. Whatever reputation they had built over their history; lingered.
Clearly the humanoid emotion of Pride still could rise up in each race. This being so; this narrative or explanation wasn't widely accepted.
Because deep down we all knew two things about our human ancestry. For those who tried to kept the peace; we didn't want history to repeat itself.
The opinion on natural humans was summed up in a quote from a non human. "Humans are known for their treachery and their disinclination to learn from their worst mistakes." - Isilidan Grimm Captain of The Nirashti Guard.
While history did began to repeat itself. At first in small isolated worlds. It would not be long until there was a universe populated with such worlds.
500 standard years would pass without any interruption from their 'precious research'...
On a forbidden planet deep in restricted space; a genetic research facility was in operation. The radioactive nature of the planet made visitors rare. Those that lived on the planet never left.
A beautiful woman sat alone on her hospital bed. Her eyes covered by her hair; she seemed fixated on something on the floor. Pupils now were dilated with an iridescent orange hue present due to her genetic makeup.
Time had seemed to slip away- she no longer had any idea how long she had been staring at the white walls. While Her breathing changed to a very slow rate- she became aware of the room.
Confused now, she looked down to the holes in her plain white bed sheets. She felt a sense of loss like she had forgotten something really important. Her mind was confused and yet; she somehow knew that it was by design. How ever as much as she tried to summon rage; tranquil she remained.
She got the sense from inside who she was that; she SHOULD care, and the fact that she didn't confused her even more.
It bothered her that her memory was being blocked. She did not know where or who she was, but; she was very well aware she was not safe.
