Y/N's POV
I laid in my bed in silence. The rain hit the dorm windows hard as the wind whipped against the castle. I couldn't sleep. Every time I closed my eyes, all I could think about was the day my dad left, how my mother would never treat me the same afterwards. I've never told anyone about these things, I didn't even realize they weren't normal until the other Slytherin's talked about their families and home life. I could feel that anxiety burning in my chest as I stared at the green curtains enclosing my bed. There is a million other things I could be thinking about; there was a troll in the dungeons the other night and the DADA professor fainted, I could be thinking about the potions test tomorrow, hell, I could even be thinking about my outfit for the quidditch game this weekend.
I couldn't fall back asleep, and the next thing I knew, my feet hit the cold floor as I thoughtlessly walked to the couch in the common room. I watched the fire as I sat there, completely zoned out and unaware, I felt a tear run down my face. Oddly enough, the fire was comforting. I stretched out on the couch and laid my head on one of the pillows, continuing to watch the fire.Draco's POV
I woke up in the middle of the night, not tired at all. This was normal as I have always had issues sleeping. I didn't want to wake anyone, so I walked down to the common room figuring I could watch the fire. As I approached the couch I saw HER laying there. Eyes closed, lips parted, curled in a ball. I had brought a blanket down with me since the common room is always cold, but somehow I found myself covering her up as she slept. Y/n had seemed happy and content every day during class and mealtimes. It was almost November, so her mother letter didn't even seem to bother her anymore. Still, I couldn't shake the feeling something was wrong. But even if there was, there was nothing I could do at 1am. I could hear the quiet noise of the heavy rain hitting the lake, which was right outside our common room. I tucked y/n's hair behind her ear, and walked back upstairs.
I quietly crept back into bed, and pulled the curtains shut. I shuffled in my bed, and found my sketch book. I lit my wand so I could see, and drew. Only minute later did I realize I was drawing the common room, adding the mood of the cold October rain. I sketched until I was half asleep, finally giving up, I laid my head down and went to sleep.Y/N's POV
"Y/n! Y/n! Wake up or you will be late to breakfast!" Pansy said firmer as she shook me awake.
"Alright, alright. I'm awake." I spoke sleepily. I looked down, and saw a fluffy grey blanket. Who's was this? When did that happen? A hundred thoughts went through my mind. I could keep staring at it though, Pansy would get suspicious, and being completely honest, I do not have answers.
I pushed off the blanket and head up to the dorm, changing my clothes and putting some mascara on. I walked back down to the common room and went to breakfast with Pansy. It was quiet, everyone seemed so tired and sluggish, maybe from the constant, ongoing rain. I picked at some fruit, though I wasn't very hungry, and soon enough, it was time for potions. I headed down the corridor, trying to go quickly as Snape didn't take well to tardiness. When I finally got to potions, there was no seats left, except for next to Draco. I sat down quietly, waiting for class to start.
"As you know, you have an exam today. I hope you all studied...this will not be easy." Professor Snape stated, "If I catch you cheating, straight to the headmaster...you may begin..."
I looked down at the test, and started. I couldn't remember half the stuff it was asking. I mean, did we really even learn this? Draco was done first after 5 minutes, wrote something down on a piece of scrap paper, and slid it towards me. I looked up at Snape, and while he wasn't looking, I pocketed the note. I finished the test and handed it in.
"I hope you were warm last night, you know, next time you sleep in the common room you should bring a blanket. Dummy."

My cheeks flushed pink. It was Draco? Why was he even awake? I nodded at he and smiled, silently thanking him. I am so embarrassed, I didn't even think that so many people could have seen my sleeping. I felt like drowning myself in the lake to avoid the embarrassment I felt. As I walked down the corridor, I saw him talking, well more like making fun of Harry. Draco was standoffish and mean to those around him, but not to his friends. I wish I could understand why, but it's not mine to know.
I skipped lunch to sit in the astronomy tower. The cool autumn breeze blew past, the rain still hitting the ground. When I was here, I felt at peace. Not happy, but not sad. Just comfortable. Nothing bothered me here; the world was tuned out.Draco's POV
Blaise was ranting about how Professor Binns took points away from our house over something stupid, or something like that, I wasn't really paying attention. It was 15 minutes into lunch, and Y/n still hadn't shown up. Pansy seemed confused, but didn't care enough to find out were she was.
"Hey, um, i forgot something back in transfiguration. I'm going to go grab it Blaise. I'll listen to the rest of the story later." I trailed off. I had to know where she was, plus, I'd rather be anywhere but with Blaise ranting. I walked up the cold spiral stairs, and just through the doorway, I could see her sitting against the railing, deep in thought.
"Hey dummy, what's on your mind?" I questioned jokingly.
"Oh hi! I didn't even see you come up, it's nothing" she replied cheerful, with a soft smile on her face.
"You weren't at lunch? Are you sure?" I pressed, unsure about her reply.
"Wasn't hungry, I'd rather be up here anyway, it's quieter." She replied softly.
We sat in the tower for the remainder of the lunch break. There was no noise besides the sound of rain hitting the stone and the occasional sigh. She had this power to be silently comforting, making the atmosphere very relaxing. Maybe we could be good friends.
