The snow silently fell onto the grounds of Hogwarts, wrapping the castle in a blanket of snow. The inside of the castle was bustling, getting ready for Christmas break. Student were packing, last minute gift shopping, and finishing up assignments. You sat on your bed while Pansy packed, and drew in your sketchbook. All of your friends we're leaving for Christmas break, you'd be the only one staying as your mother was still pissed from the sorting. You didn't have much money to get presents this year, so you bought sweet for all your friends and worked on some sketches to go with them. You knew it wasn't much, but at least you tried.
You looked up from your drawing after hearing Pansy's trunk thump onto the ground. For only leaving for two weeks, she had packed almost half of her belongings, she obviously didn't want to be under prepared. She huffed and flopped onto her bed.
"Merlin that was so much work. Where are the house elf's when you need them" she whined dramatically.
"Well, at least you got it all done today. The train leaves tomorrow, but why did you have to pack so much for two weeks?" I replied laughing. Pansy was the most dramatic girl you knew, it paired well with her over the top personality.
"I can't go back home without everything I could possibly need, what if we go on an outing and I don't have the right clothes?" She replied with panic laced in her voice.
"Everything will be fine Pansy, plus I'm staying here anyway so I can mail you anything you need." I responded calmly.
With that Pansy looked at me with a concerned look on her face, then ushered us to the great hall for dinner. The hall was decorated in tinsel and garland. As we headed to our usual spots, I admired the decorations.
"Look who finally decided to show up. Are you two always late?" Blaise said sarcastically, with a hint of laughter in his voice.
"It's called being fashionably late Blaise, and we do it very well" Pansy responded wittily.
I busted out into laughter at the conversation, giving a knowing look to Draco. Draco and had both known that they definitely had a crush on each other, but they were both too blind to see it. After calming down, I shoveled some mashed potatoes and chicken onto my plate, then promptly covering it in gravy.
"So, Draco, Blaise, what are you guys doing for Christmas break?" Pansy questioned.
"My mum hasn't told me yet, a recon it's some sort of surprise. I know I'll most likely be going to the winter ball at the Malfoy's as usual though" Blaise stated, not looking up from his plate.
"The usual, a small trip to the family house in Paris and then preparing for the ball, are you coming Pansy?" Draco asked smugly.
"Assumingely, yes?" Pansy's replied.
None of them had asked what my plans were, for fear of making me feel bad. They didn't have to, but they wanted to protect my feelings. When I first told Draco, he insisted on staying behind with me, but I didn't want him to miss out just because of me. He had also told me that he would've invited me to go with him, but it was too short of notice.
Soon enough dinner was dismissed, and we all headed out to our dorms. After Pansy had fallen asleep our room was quiet. So, I decided to take a walk, making sure I didn't get caught. It was a frigged night, the halls were terribly cold, but soon enough I made it to the astronomy tower. I sat on the edge of the tower, shading the drawing I was working on. The only sound present was the wind howling and the sound of the pencil scraping over the paper.
"Isn't it a bit too cold to be up here dummy?"
I whipped my head around, and there was Draco, standing in the doorway. He was in a pair of grey sweatpants and a heavy green jacket. He was smiling right at me, his icy eyes piercing in the moonlight.
"A bit, but it's calming up here. What are you doing awake Dray?" I softly asked
"Something told me to come up here, I couldn't sleep." Draco stated as he walked toward the ledge, sitting down next to me "What are you drawing" he asked as he peered over my shoulder. I slammed my sketchbook shut quickly.
"It's uh, nothing. Not for you to see." I stuttered out.
Draco responded with a mhmm, looking at me inquisitively. For the rest of the night with laid there and looked at the stars, Draco pointing out every constellation he knew. His favorite was the big dipper, I don't really know what mine was. He was so soft and gentle, something I really hadn't seen from him before. I stared at his beautiful icy blue eyes, before looking back up at the stars. Although, what must've been me blinking was actually me falling asleep, I can only assume that Draco took me back to my dorm that night.
TIME SKIP~
Pansy, Draco, and Blaise all left the following morning for Christmas break, it was just me and a few other fellow Slytherins. The castle seemed quieter than usual, it was almost nerving. I sat in the common room doodling, as some other Slytherin sat in the arm chair close by, reading some charms book.
"What are you drawing?" The boy asked, looking over at me.
"Nothing important, just some doodles." I replied nonchalantly.
"Sorry, uh, my name is Theo Nott. You are Y/n Emerson, right?" He asked in a sweet tone.
"Yes, um, its nice to meet you Theo." You stated as you stuck out your hand for him to shake.
He took your hand and shook it smiling at you. You could only wonder how he would've known who you were; you weren't that popular. The two of you sat in the common room chatting and keeping each other company, he had told you he decided not to go home simply because he didn't want to. Meanwhile in your head, all you could think about is how your friends were doing. You bid your goodbyes and went up to your room, when you see your owl on the windows sill, with a letter in her mouth.Dear y/n,
Although it has only been a couple days, I do really miss you. The Manor has been awfully quiet, and even though we leave Paris tomorrow, I wish you were here. I really couldn't wait any longer to give you your Christmas gift, so I included it with the letter. I hope you like it, I hope to see you soon.
Your friend,
D.MYou looked down at the little box after reading the letter, and opened it. Inside there was a beautiful silver chain necklace, incasing a emerald in the middle. It was gorgeous. You couldn't help but feel bad for how must this could've cost. You clasped the necklace around your neck, while looking at its beauty in the mirror. You decided to write a letter back to Draco, thanking him for the gift, and giving him his own, even though it was early.
Dear Draco,
Thank you so much for the necklace, it is absolutely beautiful. I adore it. Although I couldn't get you much, I attached your gift as well. I miss you, I hope break going quickly and that you enjoyed Paris. I hope you like your gift. -Y/n EmersonYou can close the letter in the drawing in an envelope, taping it to a small package of sweets. Do you hand it to your owl and let her fly off, I really hope that Draco will like his drawing. For Draco, you had to drew the Draco constellation along with the big dipper and some others. The sketch turned out beautifully, but you've never really given your drawings to anyone before. You know that Draco would probably not respond, at least not until after tomorrow, as the Malfoy winter ball was tomorrow. All of your friends are going, except for your self. This was your first Christmas alone, although it didn't really feel like it. Your mother had really never been the holiday type, so you guys never really celebrated. I snuggled up on my bed in a fluffy green Slytherin blanket, with a book in my hand, coming to sleep shortly after.
