"You're back?" Y/N asked, placing the bowl of ramyeon she had cooked for Yeonjun on the dining table.
"Yea," Yeonjun replied curtly, shrugging his bag off his shoulder before removing his jacket.
Y/N sighed.
Yeonjun had been practising for his group's world tour for the past few months, perfecting all the dances and ensuring he would be in his best condition for the tour. Y/N knew he had high expectations of himself, would often push himself to his limits to achieve perfection and was worried about his health. Her boyfriend was going to practice in the wee hours of the morning and only come back when the sunset for the past few months and that took a toll on his health as he skipped meals to squeeze in more time for practice.
Y/N had barely gotten to speak to him during this period and constantly worried whether Yeonjun was eating and sleeping well as he promised her to. Whenever she asked about things like this, Yeonjun's replies were always short and even though he tried to assure her time and again that he was okay, his health said otherwise. Y/N knew from Soobin that Yeonjun had fainted in the practice room on several occasions during practice but the only thing she could do was to remind him to eat the meals she prepared for him every day before he went to work and get him to sleep early because she didn't want to cause extra stress for him by nagging at him constantly.
"Did you eat your lunch today?"
"Mmhm."
"Took proper breaks during practice?"
"Mmhm."
"Soobin told me you fainted today during practice again," Y/N said softly, her eyebrows furrowed in worry as she stared at Yeonjun.
"I'm fine," Yeonjun stated and started to do jumping jacks to prove his point.
"Jjun, you're not, I can see it so clearly. Can you just listen and take adequate breaks and rest well? I don't want you to fall sick-" Y/N said, wishing that her boyfriend would take good care of himself.
"I already told you I'm fine! Gosh Y/N, give me a damn break from your nagging, I know how to take care of myself and where my limits are."
Yeonjun groaned in frustration as he ran his fingers through his hair, trying to calm himself down.
His sudden outburst startled Y/N and she willed herself not to tear up. In the many years of their dating, he had never raised his voice at her, and if he did, he was definitely pissed. Yeonjun, not knowing what to do, and too agitated from the outburst, took his keys and went out of the house to clear his mind.
The door closed behind Yeonjun and when he walked off, Y/N sank onto the sofa, too shocked and hurt by her boyfriend's words. She understood he was tired and tried not to nag a lot, but she couldn't just sit back and watch him get weaker and less healthy every day. The fact that he fainted multiple times during practice was enough to send off warning alarms in her head. She wanted to help him, but he was only pushing her away, over and over again, trying to assure her that everything was fine when it clearly wasn't. She wasn't mad at him, but she just wished he could take better care of himself as seeing him like this made her heart break into pieces.
She knew it was ridiculous to cry over such a matter when she wasn't the one suffering but she couldn't stop her tears as they fell onto her hands and she eventually cried herself to sleep on the sofa, curling up into a tiny ball.
Yeonjun had gone to the river near their apartment to reflect on his actions earlier and as he trudged along the bridge, he thought of Y/N's hurt face earlier and the way she was holding back tears and felt like punching himself. He felt like a jerk for not being appreciative of Y/N and even shouting at her for caring about his wellbeing. Y/N must've been so upset and worried about him, yet he wasn't putting in the effort to take care of himself despite her frequent reminders.
With that thought, he took a deep breath and let it out before heading back to their shared apartment with a newfound determination. He was going to apologise to Y/N and start taking care of himself to prevent her from worrying so much.
As he made his way back, he could see the light in their apartment was still lit and wondered if Y/N had gone to bed already. He slipped off his shoes and opened the door tentatively, and found Y/N curled up on the sofa, sleeping soundly. Being careful not to wake her up, he softly padded over to her sleeping figure and crouched down, removing a piece of hair from her face and tucking it behind her ear. When he saw tear streaks on her face, he felt a pang in his heart and another wave of self-blame came rushing back.
If he had tried harder to take care of himself like what Y/N said, things wouldn't have ended up like this, he thought, using the pad of his thumb to wipe away the tear streaks on her cheeks. This inevitably woke Y/N up and her eyelids fluttered a little before realising that Yeonjun was back and quickly pushed herself up so she could sit comfortably.
"Y/N, I'm sorry for raising my voice at you and getting all frustrated just because you were trying to help me. I know I should've taken better care of myself and I know you're worried about me because I'm pushing myself too much and I genuinely appreciate you trying to take care of me. I promise to listen to you and take better care of myself, okay?" Yeonjun said, placing his hand on Y/N's face affectionately as she nodded, smiling, and tears of joy filled her eyes. She wrapped her arms around her boyfriend, pulling him close as she pecked his cheek lightly. Yeonjun held her tightly in his arms, silently vowing to never let go of this angel he loved with all his heart.
