Hayoon took a deep breath, exhaling as a small smile found itself on her face. "A cup of iced americano, please," she said, tapping her credit card before she found a table at the corner of the cafe right beside the window.

Before she could even put her bag down, a ball of fur jumped nimbly onto the seat, staring at her with wide, round eyes. "Looks like you found this seat before me, didn't you?" Hayoon chuckled, picking up the grey tabby gently before placing it onto her lap. A low rumble that sounded like an engine escaped the tabby as she stroked its head.

She felt a pair of eyes watching her and looked up, meeting the eyes of a stranger. A stranger with extremely beautiful eyes, she noted to herself. He was sitting on the floor of the cat cafe, eyebrows slightly furrowed and his lips forming a small pout as he looked at the tabby on her lap.

"I guessed it didn't like my belly rubs much," he shrugged, lips pressing into a thin line before he caught her concerned gaze and couldn't help but laugh. "Mind if I join you?" The guy continued, and Hayoon shook her head, shifting her bag closer to her to make space.

"Choi Yeonjun," he said, as he took the seat right next to her.

"Shin Hayoon."

"Hayoon," Yeonjun repeated, her name slipping off his tongue so naturally you would've thought he had known her for more than a few minutes. Hayoon just stared at him, silently observing, or more like checking him out, grateful for the distraction from the troubles of the day. At that thought, she let out a small sigh, so soft she thought Yeonjun wouldn't hear, but he did and cocked his head to the side, instantly reminding Hayoon of a cat, or a fox, from his sharp eyes.

"A tough day?" He asked gently, and she gave a grim smile and nodded.

"I failed to get a simple job done and I'm sure I look incompetent to my mentor now," Hayoon shared, letting out another sigh as she rubbed the tabby's head, earning a loud purr of approval.

"Where's the criminal?"

"I- I failed to apprehend him, Kitae."

"Failed? I expected better from you, Hayoon. I heard that he's showing up during the annual gala next month to attempt another robbery, I'm sending you to get the job done. Don't disappoint me again."

"Yes, sir."

"I'm sure it was just an unlucky day, what job do you have?" Yeonjun said kindly and Hayoon managed a small smile.

"Can't reveal much, but it keeps our city safe."

"That's mysterious," Yeonjun commented, the corner of his lips tipping up into a smile.

"What about you?"

"I'm afraid my job wouldn't qualify to be mysterious, but very fulfilling nonetheless. I work in a children's home, I'm the director actually, with a small group of volunteers to help take care of all the little monkeys," Yeonjun said, his smile fond as he spoke about his job.

When Hayoon remained silent, he turned to look at her and saw her looking at him, her expression unreadable.

"I was an orphan too, but wasn't as lucky as the children in your home. Spent a large part of my childhood lurking in the shadows, stealing here and there for survival. I hated that life and wanted to have an actual place I could call home. My mentor, he found, or more like caught me, when I was stealing something from him. He didn't call the cops on me, just took me in, saying I had potential and raised me like his own child, before I was old enough to be trained to work under him," Hayoon shared before grimacing. "I overshared, didn't I?" She asked and Yeonjun shook his head.
