Sequel to "A Players Prayer"
Jade, a passionate and talented aspiring actress, dreams of making it big on the big screen. As she lands a breakthrough role in a film that eerily mirrors her life, Jade finds herself caught in a delicate balancing act...
Jade was finally back in New York, feeling like a private eye on a mission, the blue lights from her MacBook damn near blinding her in the darkness of her bedroom as she clicked through Wikipedia articles, blog post and watched interviews on all things Asante Ivory. She was so intrigued, wanting to know exactly who he was and why she couldn't seem to get him off her mind. She had a creative writing paper that was due at exactly 11:59 — in approximately three hours, but her focus was shot.
The past forty-eight hours have been nothing short of chaotic for Jade, as her world has been turned upside down. Finding out about her brother's arrest was shocking enough, but the relentless media coverage has made it all the more unbearable. A once-respected billionaire family, admired for their philanthropic efforts and elite status, was now being treated like criminals. The New York Times and countless other outlets have plastered their name across headlines, and the weight of public scrutiny was a lot to bear.
With the investigation ongoing, the media was relentless, dissecting every detail of their lives and speculating without restraint.
Jade was caught in the middle, struggling to maintain her composure. She's trying her best to focus on the exciting projects she has lined up, opportunities she's worked tirelessly to secure, but her family's drama was always looming.
Clicking on the link that led to Asante's Instagram page, she scrolled through his feed getting a small glimpse of his life in picture form. She must of been scrolling too deep and got way too carried away, cause when her finger accidentally double tapped an old shirtless picture from his trip to Cabo, she was more than ready to delete her insta.
Quickly taking her like back, she prayed the notification wouldn't pop up on his phone before locking it.
"Oh my God," she mumbled to herself, clicking out of all the tabs she had open on him and shifting her focus back on her paper.
Her creative writing assignment was pretty self explanatory, she was to develop a deeper understanding of character motivation and emotional depth by creating an extended inner monologue for a character of her choice then prepare to perform the monologue in class next week.
Paris trotting into her bedroom interrupted her train of thought, immediately dropping everything to pick her up.
"Hi baby, wanna do my homework for me?" Jade cooed, rubbing behind Paris' ears as she wagged her tongue happily. She played with Paris for a little bit before she placed her in her dog bed by her bed so she could really focus.
She chose to base her assignment on a character she created on the spot, a twenty year old girl named Iris Laurent who leaves her small town for a big city to pursue a career in theater. Iris works as a waitress by day and auditions by night in hopes of making her dreams a reality.
The cursor at the end of her outline seemed to mock her as she stared at it, no other ideas formulating in her head.
Key Themes: • Abandonment and forgiveness. • The longing for identity and connection. • The conflict between self-reliance and vulnerability
She quickly erased everything she typed out, knowing five other girls in class were going to come up with the exact same idea. It was way too basic.
An IG notification served as the perfect distraction for her, taking her eyes off her MacBook screen as she reached for her phone.
