Victor and I leave the room to give Sang a moment with North, but it only takes five minutes or so before Sang comes upstairs. She's still looking upset, and I can understand why, but she seems happy we stayed.
"Come here Princess," Victor says. She heads to the bed where we are both sitting and sits between us. "Do you want to talk about it?"
"No," she says softly, looking down at her hands. "I can't... not yet."
"That's okay," I reassure her, gently taking her hands in mine. "We're here for you whenever you decide you're ready." She nods, biting her lip and I smile. "Just so you know, we won't be mad if you want to talk to someone else about this either. Like if you'd rather talk to Owen, or North or whoever, about this instead of us that's fine."
"Thank you," she murmurs. I glance at Victor and we decide distraction is the best idea we've got. I don't know how to cheer her up, because this isn't really the kind of news you can recover from in a matter of an hour. But we can help with her Christmas problem, and I think that'll be something that can help her.
"So," Victor says, elongating the o sound. "I'm not sure if you're still in the mood to do Christmas shopping... but it could be fun. It might take your mind off things, princess."
"I don't know if I want to go out," Sang says sadly. "I'm sorry, I was really—"
"What if you didn't need to go outside?" I ask, cutting her off. "What if we could stay inside your bedroom and get everything we need?"
"Like sit here and do my Christmas shopping?" she asks, a big smile gracing her face. Her bright green eyes sparkle as she looks at me.
"Yes," Victor says. "We don't even need to leave your bed."
"That sounds amazing," she says, clapping her hands. The jaded look has faded from her face, and all I can see is unfiltered excitement. "How?"
Victor pulls out an iPad from his bag and hands it to her. He explains about expedited shipping and how we can get items delivered so she doesn't need to go outside.
"This sounds fun," she says, her gaze confused as she looks at the iPad in her hands. "I don't know where to begin, though."
"We all have an iPad," Victor says. "We can go through and highlight things we think the others will like and if you want to get it for them you can."
"Okay," she agrees, nodding before biting her lip. "How do I pay for it?"
Sang doesn't know this yet, I'm guessing, but she's not registered with the state—something we figured out based on her forged birth certificate and although I've not done more than a simple search, I'm pretty confident—so she won't ever have a bank account. The card she currently has is linked to her dad, and doesn't have her name on it. I don't think spending his money on gifts for random men she's just met will be something he approves of.
